UPDATE: Check here for what I managed to get at Record Store Day 2014!
As most of you guys know, it is the 7th annual Record Store Day today. Surprisingly, this is also the day 2 years ago when I first launched my chart to the world; more on that later. There are tons of amazing deals and exclusives that might spark your interest but I'll tell you this for sure: everything will sell out so get to your store early! As I looked through the list, I found about 10 items that I might be interested in and I think you might give them a look if you read this blog. Here's my top 5 must haves from Record Store Day 2014:
5. "Demolicious" by Green Day
Format: CD, Vinyl, Cassette, and Combo Pack
As most of you know, Green Day worked on a multi album project throughout most of 2012. They recorded heap loads of tracks, finally announcing a 3 part album series titled Uno!, Dos!, and Tré!(one, two and three in translation). These albums were released throughout the fall of 2012, starting with the first part in September and the final installment arriving in early December. The first album started at #2 in the US with a reasonable 139,000 copies sold through 7 days. That was way down from their 2009 opening at #1 with 21st Century Breakdown. That album sold 215,000 copies through a short 3 day frame. That record ended with over 1 million sold in the US alone. On the other hand, Uno! ended 2012 with just 256,000 copies sold. Dos! ended with a small unknown amount after a pitiful 69,000 copy first week debut. Tré! started with just 58,000 copies.
Now after over a year of silence, Green Day will be releasing an 18 track compilation album composed of demos, outtakes and a single new track titled "State of Shock". The release will be a Record Store Day debut, but it is unknown if it will have an extended shelf life beyond April 19th. It will see release in double vinyl, CD format and cassette format.
Format: 12" 4 Sided Vinyl Picture LP Set
Almost everyone has already heard everything on PRISM everywhere, but I got to say this picture disc is extremely intriguing. Containing all 16 tracks from the deluxe version of PRISM, this vinyl picture disc LP will easily be one of the first items to sell out. Why? Because picture discs are worth a lot of money. I got a feeling that this one won't be in stores after today.
The PRISM picture disc includes the scrapped "Unconditionally" cover artwork (one of the most brilliant images used to promote the era), and comes wrapped in a purple butterfly, transparent sealed skin.
PRISM includes the CDS Music Chart #1 single "Unconditionally", the #2 hits "Walking On Air" and "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" and the #3 peaking lead single "Roar".
Format: 12" Vinyl
Zedd's latest single (from the new young adult adaption "Divergent") will be released as a 2 track EP featuring the original version of the track (straight off the official soundtrack) as well as an official live recorded version. "Find You" features Matthew Koma and Miriam Bryant.
This record store day exclusive collectors piece has been limited to an unknown amount of copies. It is considered very rare.
Format: 7" Vinyl
Limited to a mere 3,000 copies, the etched vinyl release of "Midnight" will kick off on April 19th in the UK before reaching the United States. It was supposed to see release in the States on April 19th, however some undisclosed problem caused the release to be postponed indefinitely.
"Midnight" is the 1st promo track released from the group's upcoming studio set, Ghost Stories, which is scheduled for a May 19th release date. It follows the disc's first official single ,"Magic", which reached as high as #18 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. This release is covered with a skimpy parchment paper sleeve, however the back side of the single song record has an etched picture of seals swimming through darkness. The etching was done by the artist of the album's cover. The above picture shows the sleeve and the back of the vinyl single.
Format: 12" Vinyl
And Paramore tops the must have list. "Ain't It Fun", the latest Paramore single release, is starting gain traction in the United States and on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 (currently #43). Additionally, this customized vinyl gives a "broken record" feel to the track, as it actually appears to be split in half. Don't worry! For the lucky ones that actually managed to snag a copy of this extremely limited release: it will still play.
What are you looking forward to at this year's festival?
