First things first. Lorde should be able to pull off a second straight week at #1 with her second charting single "Team". "Team" is currently up by 2% in terms of overall chart points scored this week compared to last. On the other hand, likely #2 candidate "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" by Katy Perry has dipped by 1% this week so far. If everything holds within the next few hours (when the tracking week closes), "Horse" will likely ride into the runner-up position for a second consecutive frame. "Horse" already claims the second longest climb to a peak position after the #9 peak of Krewella's breakthrough single "Live For the Night" which closed with 1024 points about a month ago. That track peaked at #9 in its 32nd week on the chart, one of this year's first few frames. If "Horse" on the other hand stalls in its 31st week, while down less than 1%, there is chance that it could eventually break the "Longest Climb to Peak" and "Longest Climb to #1" records. Those frame record numbers are 32 and 24 respectively. Additionally, "Horse" will inch to the 990 point barrier (no matter what) and will reach platinum certification status next week; there is no question.
Lady Gaga's latest single "G.U.Y" could rise as high as #3 this week based on some heavy airplay strides it has made since the last frame's final numbers scanned. That would put it in line for the second highest peak of a Lady Gaga single. "Applause", "Venus" and "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" all reached #1 (a tie for first place; you can't get higher), while "Mary Jane Holland" reached #3 back in November after the release of ARTPOP.
On the lower end of things, I am scaling back my predicted debuting range for "West Coast" by Lana Del Rey. I initially expected this new track to open strong and gain lots of votes from the Twitter community, but only the first of those two expectations actually came to fruition. Now I believe it will start between position #30 and 40. That's a lower range than my initial scale by 10 (20-30). Sorry Lana fans, but "West Coast" didn't start out like we all thought it would. Thankfully, there is room for more growth in the weeks to come when it is added to US radio stations.
OneRepublic's new single "Love Runs Out" is actually benefiting from the demise of "West Coast". Currently, it looks like it will impact the Hot 50 with a hit between ranks #15 and 20. That's a strong opening, enough to garner it the Hot Shot Debut banner on this upcoming week's chart.
Come back for the chart and more new features this weekend!
