Forecast: 5SOS Headed For Top 50
I'm not generally one to listen to boy bands but 5 Seconds of Summer (generally shortened to 5SOS) is looking for a moderate debut on the CDS Music Chart Top 50. With the release of the group's new EP arriving in stores earlier this week, the 4 song collection's title track, "She Looks So Perfect", could manage to crack the top 50. While it likely won't reach higher than #40 this week, any debut for 5 Seconds of Summer would still be an amazing achievement. Only two other boy bands have charted on the Top 50 (both in 2012 when the chart was only 40 positions) in history. The Wanted previously opened at #18 with debut US single "Glad You Came" on the chart dated February 9th, 2012. The track eventually reached #1 for a single week on March 15th, 2012 (6th week). It spent 21 weeks in the top 40 and eventually became the #16 best performing song of 2012. Using un-adjusted numbers, the track scored about 550 chart points within its run. With a new way of counting points, the track's inflated score is about 750 (#62 all time).
One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" debuted and peaked at #17 in May 2012, on it's way to a final tally over 350 points, enough to rank #162 of all time (to date).
It's highly unlikely that "She Looks So Perfect" matches these feats, but it could become a moderate hit if all goes well.
Additionally, Shakira's "Empire" is high likely to tack a 4th week in the penthouse position (though it will fall in chart points), and OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" will likely spend a 12th non-consecutive week at #2.
Also, Lady Gaga's "G.U.Y" should easily reach the top 10 this week (it blasted 24-12 last week).
Come back for the chart!
