Year To Date: Top 50 Singles (Through July 10th)

Several weeks ago I published a list with the top 20 best performing songs of 2014 thus far. This time around, I have expanded the list to a top 50 through July 10th. Though points have already been added for the top 15 songs on the July 17th chart. While this might give several songs large advantages, it's worth noting that songs below the top 15 don't get nearly as many points, so their scores aren't effected downward a whole top.

Quick Analysis

Clean Bandit's breakout hit, "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" has officially jumped into the top 5 since the last update with a massive 888 points. Next week it is set to pass 900 points. It should climb to 4th place in two weeks, and 2nd place in four weeks. If it stays on a similar pattern, it'll wind up with a strong 1070 points by that time frame (four weeks), enough for a platinum certification. It's worth noting that John Newman's "Losing Sleep", the song "Be" passed Gold with, fell off the chart almost immediately afterwards. The #11 peaking track capped its short length run with just 525 points (ranking #27 to date).

Shakira's "Empire" has officially surpassed the January released "Can't Remember to Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" as the biggest hit in the Colombian singer's catalog (2012-present), ranking in 7th place on the year to date list with approximately 790 points. While that's a promising looking cume, "Empire" has fallen sharply off of a magnificent start. It should cap with just over 850... 900 at the highest. If it rebounds, that's a different story. It's worth noting that while all of the charted Shakira tracks in 2014 have peaked at a place in the top 5 for at least two weeks each, they've all fallen sharply and deflated quickly. Still, Shakira should be up for some CDS Music Chart Year-End Music Awards (she scored 6 nominations for the newly created Mid-Year ceremony during its inaugural season and scored the win for "Best Latin Recording") for her work on her new album Shakira; she's also likely to become one of the top artists of the year.

Iggy Azalea is also likely to become one of the best selling new artists of the year, with "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)" likely to pass 700 points, with her guest feature on Ariana Grande's "Problem" likely to  pass 500 points, a modest finish.
