Chart Highlights: Sia Enters Top 10, The Madden Brothers Bubble

Something's a-brew this week on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. Sia soars into the upper tier after rattling around for 16 weeks, Usher claims this week's top debut with "She Came To Give It To You" (#16), last week's big debuts jump up the list, and The Madden Brothers squeeze into 51st place ahead of favorite Jess Glynne's "Right Here", which enters the list at #52 (falling short of expectations). As I do every weekend (in this case, Monday), let's dive deeper into the numbers and how things played out on this week's chart.

Maroon 5's "Maps" locks up the #1 slot yet again, for a 2nd week at #1. While that run at #1 is nothing to brag about (the longest chart leader tallied 11 frames atop the list), it's worth noting that "Maps" has already become Maroon 5's second longest runner, surpassing "One More Night" and "Love Somebody". Those two tracks reigned for 1 week each, with "Somebody" replacing "Night" atop the list. "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)" (the group's best performing single) is the only track by the band to rack more weeks at #1, tallying 4 frames on the summit from April to May 2012. With just under 200 points through its 4th frame, "Maps" is already on pace to wind up with a total past 900, with a 2x Platinum certification (1250+ points) within reach. That would put it between "Payphone" and "One More Night", as the band's second biggest single to date (2012-present).

With 131 all format points counted this week, the track dips by approximately 3% (-2.96%) which suggests that a fall from the summit is likely within the next several weeks. The cut leads Pop Songs for a second week, climb 3-2 on Streaming Songs and bullets at #1 on Radio Songs (which it has lead for a 4 consecutive weeks). It also leaps 9-1 on the Voter's List, which gave it a slightly bigger point boost this week. Additionally, "Maps" spends a 2nd frame atop Adult Pop Songs and a 4th week atop Adult Songs.

To date (including this frame), Maroon 5 has notched a cumulative total of 8 weeks at #1 on the Hot 50 since 2012 across 4 entries (out of 8 top 10s). Maroon 5's previous 7 top 5 hits are as follows: the #1 peaking "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)", the #1 peaking "One More Night", the #1 peaking "Love Somebody", the #3 peaking "Lucky Strike", the #5 peaking "Doin' Dirt", the #5 peaking "Daylight" and the #5 peaking "Moves Like Jagger (feat. Christina Aguilera)".

Kiesza's "Hideaway" holds on to the runner-up position for a 5th consecutive frame, which brings its weeks in the top 5 to 11. It previously peaked at #1 for 6 consecutive weeks. Amazingly, Kiesza still holds the second longest running #1 debut (behind the 11 non-consecutive week run of "Applause") as well as the only song to rack 100 points or more for 11 weeks, further extending its record lead (it surpassed "Do What U Want" after its third week past 100) though that's not saying much given that every track in the top 10 wound up past 100 points this week. For the 4th straight week, Kiesza barely lands in the #2 position, facing strong competition from Maroon 5's "Maps" (which elevates to #1 this week). Currently, "Hideaway" is ranked as the #1 song of the summer as the annual competition enters its seventh week, jumping past Sanna Nielsen's "Undo" (which held the #1 seasonal slot to date for 3 weeks).

Kiesza's "Giant In My Heart" elevates 5-3 to become the Canadian singer's 2nd consecutive entry to reach the top 5. Previously, her debut single "Hideaway" reached the summit of the Hot 50 chart for 6 consecutive weeks at #1. With 127 points scored this week, the track barely slipped into the #3 position this week. At this point, it is highly likely that "Giant" winds up taking the #1 position from the current leader (Maroon 5's "Maps") within the next few weeks. That would make it Kiesza's second #1 single.

Sanna Nielsen's "Undo" drops 3-4 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50's summit after reigning at #1 for 3 consecutive frames, which tied Loreen's "Euphoria" as the longest reigning #1 hit from any edition of the Eurovision Song Contest (coincidentally, both female artists represented Sweden in the annual competition). This week, "Undo" slides to 125 points alongside a 3-4 drop on the chart. With its continued drops, "Undo" falls below Kiesza's "Hideaway" in terms of overall points in the 2014 Summer Songs competition. As of the seventh week of summer tracking, "Undo" is now the #2 best performing track of the season (Kiesza's "Hideaway" shifts to 295 points, to reclaim the #1 seasonal rank).

Clean Bandit's "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" drops 4-5 after peaking at #4 for a 3 weeks. Out of its 22 weeks on the chart, the track has spent 13 non-consecutive weeks in the top 10. It previously tallied two weeks at #9 toward the start of its run and a total of five non-consecutive weeks at #10 (a record tying total). Katy Perry's "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" first strung together 5 non-consecutive weeks at #10 between December 2013 and February 2014. Given the track's impressively strong track record (and decent hold this week), "Rather Be" will likely close past 1000 chart points (it passes 880 points this week), which ranks as the #2 best performing single of the year to date.

Iggy Azalea's "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)" holds at #6 for a 4th frame (6th overall), despite pushing past 100 frame points for the fourth time (121; +2%). With this frame, it sets the record for most weeks at #6 (6). Additionally, it makes noticeable strides on Radio and Streaming components. It leads Hip-Hop/Rap Songs for a 10th straight week, though it slips 3-4 on the Voter's Hot 100. It should be on pace for an 11th week at #1 on Hip-Hop/Rap Songs, given the fact that its biggest competitor (Nicki Minaj's "Pills N Potions") drops 2 rungs to #14 this week.

Nico & Vinz push 8-7 with their debut hit single "Am I Wrong". This week, the track jumps to 119 spins, which ranks it within the top 10 biggest frames for any song ever. That's nothing to really boast about, but "Am I Wrong" has a chance at getting close to a record before its run is over. To date, the track has yet to slip any positions or hold at the same position for a second week (all of its chart movements have been upwards). Additionally, all movements have been somewhat drastic and large. Last week it moved up 2 spaces, and in the previous it moved up 11.

Sia's "Chandelier" finally reaches the top 10 for the first time thanks to the massive release of 1000 Forms of Fear (the song's parent album, which dropped this past week). It previously spent 16 frames bouncing around the chart, ranking as high as #11 (in its debut frame) and as low as #42 (the following week). It spent most of its time between #15-25. It is Sia's third consecutive top 10 effort. She previously reached as high as #8 as a guest on Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" in early 2012, and #1 for two weeks as a guest on David Guetta's "Titanium" approximately 2 full years ago (August 2012). It is her first solo entry and first solo top 10.

Shakira's "Dare (La La La)" holds at #9 for a second week, following a crash from 5-9 earlier this month. It previously spent two frames at its peak position of #5, and with this week totals a 5th week in the top 10. While the track successfully became Shakira's 3rd consecutive top 5 single, it's highly likely that this track caps off with a total cume lower than both that of "Empire" (790+ points through July 3rd; 7th place year to date) and "Can't Remember to Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" (752 points through entire run; 9th place year to date). That's unfortunate, but it is what it is. More details and predictions next week.

Vita Chamber's 4th consecutive top 10 single, "A+D", drops 7-10 this week (its lowest top 10 ranking to date). With this frame, it spends a fourth week past 100 points and a 5th overall week in the top 10. It should hold up well throughout the rest of July (mainly because the track's official video counterpart debuted on the final day of tracking this week). While "A+D" was the only Vita Chambers song to not debut within the top 10, the track has made up for it and become the young Canadian artist's 4th straight top 10 hit (as previously announced) following "Fix You", "Masquerade" and "What If?" which debuted at numbers 10, 9 and 7 before peaking at numbers 1, 2 and 3. It is expected to rebound next week with a 5 point video boost.

Year To Date: Top 50 Singles (Through July 10th)

Several weeks ago I published a list with the top 20 best performing songs of 2014 thus far. This time around, I have expanded the list to a top 50 through July 10th. Though points have already been added for the top 15 songs on the July 17th chart. While this might give several songs large advantages, it's worth noting that songs below the top 15 don't get nearly as many points, so their scores aren't effected downward a whole top.

Chart Highlights: Maroon 5 Barely Summits, Tinashe Claims Top Debut

After two weeks of charting, Maroon 5's "Maps" crowns the chart with a 3-1 lift in its third week on the chart. The track soars to the top of the 50 position, all format chart with 135 points, a 10 point uptick from last week's 125 point total. That ties Lady Gaga's "Venus" as the track with the second largest point frame in a non debut week; both currently rank behind Sanna Nielsen's "Undo" (137 on the chart dated July 3rd).With the move, the track abruptly cuts off the #1 run of Sanna Nielsen's "Undo" which wrapped a 3 week run at the top. While "Undo" is now stuck in a multiple way tie for shortest time at #1 in 2014, the track still manages the most solid run of any Eurovision track. Previously, Loreen's "Euphoria" (from the 2012 edition of the competition) also managed a 3 week stint in first place, though it ranked lower in terms of points in all three weeks when compared to "Undo".

Back to "Maps", the track becomes Maroon 5's 4th non-conseutive #1 single. The track follows "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)", "One More Night" and "Love Somebody" as the group's 4th #1 effort. To date (including this frame), the group has notched a cumulative total of 7 weeks at #1 since 2012. In an interesting twist, "Maps" was initially forecasted to land in 2nd or 3rd place on this week's chart behind Kiesza's "Hideaway" and Sanna Nielsen's "Undo". Surprisingly, "Maps" pulled ahead on the final day of tracking (July 4th) and completed the week barely on top of the list.

*Frame points help determine a song's position (more equals higher position; can be infinitely high), while chart points are awarded based on ranking. The #1 track gets 50 chart points even if it needed 120 frame points to get there. In other words, frame points aren't worth anything except distinguishing rank, and there is no bonus to scoring more other than recognition.

Here's a list of songs that have wound up past 100 plays. If a track had multiple weeks over 100, greatest value only is listed .NOTE: This is the second week in history to have all tracks in the top 10 tally final point scores above 101.

Kiesza's "Hideaway" added 2 points for a frame totaling 131 points, a mere 4 points off of the #1 position. To date, the track has tallied 6 consecutive weeks at #1 and another 4 consecutive consecutive frames at #2. Despite the fact that "Hideaway" didn't scoop a 7th week at #1 (like it was predicted to), Kiesza still holds the second longest running #1 debut (behind the 11 non-consecutive week run of "Applause") as well as the only song to rack 100 points or more for 10 weeks, further extending its record lead (it surpassed "Do What U Want" after its third week past 100) though that's not saying much given that every track in the top 10 wound up past 100 points. For the third straight week, Kiesza barely lands in the #2 position, facing strong competition from Maroon 5's "Maps" (which elevates to #1 this week). Currently, "Hideaway" is ranked as the #2 song of the summer as the annual competition enters its fifth week.

Sanna Nielsen's "Undo" drops from the CDS Music Chart Hot 50's summit after reigning for a 3rd consecutive frame, which tied Loreen's "Euphoria" as the longest reigning #1 hit from any edition of the Eurovision Song Contest (coincidentally, both female artists represented Sweden in the annual competition). This week, "Undo" slides to 127 points alongside a 1-3 drop on the chart. Though it no longer ranks at #1, "Undo"still holds its lead over Kiesza's "Hideaway" in terms of overall points in the 2014 Summer Songs competition. As of the fifth week of summer tracking, "Undo" currently leads the season off with 247 points (Kiesza's "Hideaway" shifts to 246 points, with the gap being only a single point wide).

Clean Bandit's "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" holds at its #4 peak for a third consecutive week in its 21st week on the chart. Given the track's impressively strong track record (and massive increase this week), "Rather Be" will likely close past 1000 chart points (it passes 830 points this week), which would rank as one of the year's biggest hits.

Kiesza's "Giant In My Heart" lifts 7-5 to round out the top 5. In the process, the track become's the Canadian singer's 2nd top 5 following "Hideaway" which debuted and peaked at #1 (holding for a 2014 record long 6 weeks). Aiding the track's growth this week? The release of the official music video which received extremely positive reception among critics and fans. With the release of its parent album, the Hideaway EP, on the third day of the upcoming frame, "Giant In My Heart" could wind up in first place next week to become the singer's second consecutive #1 single. Additionally, "So Deep" (another track on the EP) is set to make a modest yet lofty start on next week's Hot 50. Additional details and forecasts coming soon.

Iggy Azalea's "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)" holds at #6 for a 3rd frame (5th overall), despite pushing past 100 frame points for the third time (117; +2%). Additionally, it makes noticeable strides on Radio and Streaming components. It leads Hip-Hop/Rap Songs for a 9th straight week, and jumps to #3 (+5) on the Voter's Top 100 (marking its 7th top 10 appearance on the latter chart). It should be on pace for an 10th week at #1 on Hip-Hop/Rap Songs, given the fact that its biggest competitor (Nicki Minaj's "Pills N Potions") holds tight at #15 this week.

Vita Chamber's 4th consecutive top 10 single, "A+D", rebounds 8-7 on this week's chart. With this frame, it spends a third week past 100 points and a 4th overall week in the top 10. It should hold up well throughout the rest of July (mainly because the track's official video counterpart debuts on July 7th).

Nico & Vinz leap 10-8 with their debut hit single "Am I Wrong". This week, the track jumps to 112 spins, which ranks in 13th place for most points earned in a single frame. That's nothing to boast about, but "Am I Wrong" has a chance at getting close to a record before its run is over. To date, the track has yet to slip any positions or hold at the same position for a second week (all of its chart movements have been upwards). Additionally, all movements have been somewhat drastic and large. Last week it moved up 11 spaces, and in the previous it moved up 7.

Shakira's "Dare (La La La)" drops 5-9, the biggest crash in the top 10 this week. It previously spent two frames at its peak position of #5, and with this week totals a 4th week in the top 10. While the track successfully became Shakira's 3rd consecutive top 5 single, it's highly likely that this track caps off with a total cume lower than both that of "Empire" (769 points through July 3rd; 8th place year to date) and "Can't Remember to Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" (752 points through entire run; 9th place year to date). That's unfortunate, but it is what it is. More details and predictions next week.

Ariana Grande's "Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea)" slides off 9-10 while racking up exactly 105 points for the second time in a row. With the track's move into the top 10 last week, Ariana net her second straight top 10 single (after 2013's "The Way") and Iggy Azalea scooped her second straight top 10 single (after her #4 peaking "Fancy"). Additionally, Ariana equaled her highest peak (#9), which first came when 2013's "The Way (feat. Mac Miller)" reached #9 back in a nearly identical week. Unfortunately, "Problem" will likely not reach any higher on the chart. I'm expecting it to drop out of the top 10 next week.

Below the top 10, Tinashe's "2 On (feat. SchoolBoy Q)" begins at #31 (higher than the #37 debut that was previously reported) to claim the largest debut of the week. Other tracks to enter this week include the following: "My Love (feat. Jess Glynne)" by Route 94, "No Mediocre (feat. Iggy Azalea)" by T.I.", "New Flame (feat. Usher & Rick Ross)" by Chris Brown, "Good Kisser (Disclosure Remix)" by Usher x Disclosure, and "F For You (feat. Mary J Blige)" by Disclosure.

Unfortunately, nearly all of those tracks wound up with starts between 41-50, putting them in jeopardy of charting next week. Strong debuts next week should come from Kiesza's "So Deep", Ariana Grande's "Break Free (feat. Zedd)", David Guetta's "Lover's On the Sun (feat. Sam Martin)" and several tracks from Sia's forthcoming 1000 Forms of Fear album (due out July 8th in the US).

Hot 50 Debuts:
- "2 On (feat. SchoolBoy Q)" by Tinashe (1st overall entry)
- "My Love (feat. Jess Glynne)" by Route 94 (1st overall entry; 2nd for Jess Glynne)
- "No Mediocre (feat. Iggy Azalea)" by T.I." (1st overall entry; 2nd for Iggy Azalea)
- "New Flame (feat. Usher & Rick Ross)" by Chris Brown (4th overall entry; 3rd for Usher; 1st for Rick Ross)
- "Good Kisser (Disclosure Remix)" by Usher x Disclosure (4th overall entry; 2nd for Disclosure)
- "F For You (feat. Mary J Blige)" by Disclosure (3rd overall entry; 1st for Mary J Blige)
