Chart Highlights: Kiesza Opens Atop Hot 50

Just as expected, Kiesza's breakout hit, "Hideaway", opens atop the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. As it blasts to the summit alongside its stateside arrival, "Hideaway" becomes the only the 9th track in history to open in the #1 position. More amazingly, Kiesza becomes the first ever artist to launch at #1 with their debut single. Tallying a final weekly total of 115 chart points, "Hideaway" is the first non-Lady Gaga song to launch with over 100 points in a debut frame. This week's #1 posted a 16% increase in points from those scored by last week's #1, a hefty difference. Additionally, "Hideaway" starts at #24 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 15% approval rating. Overall, 246 voters cast over 3,000 votes to determine the "Best Songs of the Week" among CDS Music Chart twitter followers and users. Kiesza also launches at #1 on the Dance and Streaming component charts.

Lorde's former 3 week #1 "Team" drops 1-2 on the tally due to the rise of Kiesza. This week it drops to 97 plays (-2), a fairly strong hold that would have almost gaurenteed the track a 4th week at the summit (if Kiesza hadn't impacted the Hot 50 this week). As noted multiple times, Lorde's "Royals" (her first top 10 single/entry) previously peaked at #8 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. It's also worth noting that "Team" topped the list in its 20th week on the chart. That would have tied for "Longest Climb to #1" if this event had happened back in 2013 (with Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8"), but OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" recently completed a 24 week journey to the top slot just a few weeks ago. Follow up single , "Glory and Gore" elevates 56-52 on the extender chart, barely misssing inclusion in this week's top 50. "Team" ranks at #13 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 24% approval rating.

Katy Perry's "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" dips 2-3 after spending third straight frames at #2. Three weeks ago, the track completed the second longest run to a peak position in my chart's history. Recently Krewella's "Live For the Night" took 32 weeks to reach it's peak position of #9 just over 2 months ago. It recently exited the Hot 50 just 2 months after reaching #9 (week #40). If "Horse" reaches #1 next week it will set the record for the longest climb to a peak, as well as set a new record for longest climb to #1. "Horse" ranks at #4 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 36% approval rating.

Disclosure's breakout hit "Latch (feat. Sam Smith)" slides 3-4 on the tally. This week it elevates 2.2% from 92 to 94 spins. In the week prior, it jumped over 12%. The week before that it jumped approximately 8%. During this frame, it looked like the track could have been close to reaching #1, but that dream never came to fruition. It has jumped in total points for the past 6 consecutive frames, indicating that it wont be slowing down anytime soon. "Latch" ranks at #27 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 14% approval rating.

Lady Gaga's "G.U.Y." slides 4-5 on this week's chart. It previously reached a new peak in week #14 (the track is currently in week #16). The track is Lady Gaga's 5th top 5 single to date. "Applause", "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" and "Venus" all peaked at #1, and "Mary Jane Holland" peaked at #3. Additionally, Gaga's other top 10s include: "MANiCURE" which peaked at #7 , "Sexxx Dreams" which reached #8 and "Aura" which previously stopped at #10. That's the most top 10 entries from the same album in history. "G.U.Y" ranks at #5 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 35% approval rating.

John Legend's "All Of Me" bounds 7-6 on this week's tally, to a brand new peak in week #11. It gains heavily due to the large boost it saw in terms of radio airplay in the United States. Additionally, it benefits from the growth of its Tiësto Birthday Treatment Remix at US radio, and its inclusion on the CDS Music Chart playlist for the second week (previously only spins stemming from the original version of the song were counted toward the song's overall chart position). At this point, the track should be able to worm itself into at least the top 5 by the end of its run. "All of Me" ranks at #14 on the Voter's Top 40 this week.

Shakira's "Empire" dips 5-7 this week. It recently spent a 4th and final non-consecutive week at #1. To date the track has spent 9 weeks within the top 5. It has collected about 500 points to date, suggesting that the track will end it's run with over 800 points in the bank. That should be a solid improvement over the final numbers for "Can't Remember to Forget You" (the singer's previous single) which started out strong but collapsed somewhat quickly. The latter track only spent 2 weeks within the top 3 (both at #3).

OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" slides to its lowest position since the start of November 2013 by dropping 6-8. It had an incredible streak of 11 non-consecutive weeks at #2 and 2 consecutive weeks at #1. The track previously spent 20 straight weeks in the top 5, and logs a 24th consecutive week in the top 10 during this frame. That's the longest run since Lady Gaga's 11 week leader "Applause" logged 26 consecutive weeks (1/2 a year) in the top 10 starting with the chart dated August 22nd (its debut week). "Applause" spent 23 of those 26 weeks in the top 5 and 19 of those in the top 3 (16 in the top 2). "Stars" on the other hand has spent 23 weeks in the top 10 (so far), 20 in the top 5, 15 in the top 3 and 13 in the top 2. At the rate it is dropping, it should close it's top 10 run with 27 weeks in the region, a new record.

Avicii's "Hey Brother" descends 8-9, though still gaining in overall points. The track became Avicii's 2nd top 10 single last week. "Wake Me Up (feat. Aloe Blacc)" previously reached as high as #6 back in 2013. It ended 2013 as the #44 best performing single of the year, and eventually closed with a total just south of 900 points, enough to close as the #40 best selling single of all time. "Hey Brother" has scored just under 190 points overall.

To round out the upper tier, Clean Bandit's worldwide dance anthem "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" holds at #10, despite gaining in points. This week it grows due to a rapidly growing airplay presence on several US radio stations across the country. Expect this track to keep growing strong! If you haven't heard it (US listeners/readers might not have), this worldwide sensation is bringing people back to the dance floor. Unfortunately, "Rather Be" was not included within this week's Voter's Top 40.
OneRepublic's "Love Runs Out" elevates 14-11. If it reaches the top 10 soon and has a similar pattern to the chart run of "Counting Stars", OneRepublic might become the first band to spend over 30 consecutive weeks with a least one song in the top 10.

Lower on the Hot 50, Colplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" opens extremely high at #17 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50, automatically becoming the band's highest charting single (2012 onward). "Magic" previously reached as high as #18.

Vita Chambers' latest single, "A+D", opens at #27 on this week's list. While that's the slowest start for the Canadian superstar so far (and a tad bit below expectations), it's somewhat understandable considering the track's late debut (it debuted on Wednesday; the tracking week reboots every Saturday and ends on Friday).

Araina Grande's "Problem" meanwhile debuts at #31, a fairly weak start for the track. Despite this, it marks a career high debut for both Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea.

Here's the most voted tracks of the week in order of approval rating. The most approved track of the week - "Sirens" by Cher Lloyd" - had a 66% approval rating and opens at #45 on the chart with 100% of points earned stemming from votes. Bolded tracks entered or re-entered the chart this week and italicized tracks were on the chart last week and remain on the chart this week again. Striked tracks didn't chart this week.
