Chart Highlights: Nicki Minaj Debuts, Iggy and Coldplay Reach Top 10

Kiesza's breakout hit, "Hideaway", holds at #1 for a fourth consecutive week. Just three frames ago, "Hideaway" became only the 9th track in history to open in the #1 position. More amazingly, Kiesza became the first ever artist to launch at #1 with their debut single. Tallying a final weekly total of 105 chart points, "Hideaway" is the first ever song to tally over 100 points in any four frames. This week, "Hideaway" posted a 2.7% decrease in points from the amount of points it scored last week. "Hideaway" ups 12-9 on the Voter's Top 50 despite a two percent decrease. That brings its approval rate to 29%. Overall, 222 voters cast nearly 2,000 votes to determine the "Best Songs of the Week" among CDS Music Chart twitter followers and users. Kiesza also holds at #1 on the Dance and Streaming component charts for a fourth consecutive frame.

Colplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" holds at #2 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 for the third straight week. The track jumps by a noticeable 3% to 107, becoming the only track in history to tack three frames above 100 while in the runner up position. That's one of the largest totals for any song not in the #1 position. "Stars" drops 24-36 on the Voter's Top 50 dropping a dramatic 11% to a 15% , holds at #2 on the Dance component chart and remaining at #1 on the Pop chart for a third straight week. Additionally, Coldplay's lead single from their new album Ghost Stories, "Magic", moves 13-8 (a new peak). Read my album review for Ghost Stories.

Sanna Nielsen charges 5-3 with "Undo", the 3rd place finisher for this year's Eurovision Song Contest. "Undo" becomes the 3rd Eurovision track to reach the top 3, as well as the 4th to ever chart. Additionally, Sweden becomes the first country to see their track enter the Hot 50 for three consecutive years (the chart started in 2012; the only other entry to chart was Denmark's "Only Teardrops by Emmelie De Forest in 2013). Meanwhile this year's winner, Conchita Wurst's "Rise Like A Phoenix", falls 57-59 (just short of the official chart) due to a on the Voter's Top 50 (with a 29% (-4%) approval rating). "Undo" charges 5-3 on the Dance chart and 3-2 on Pop Songs.

John Legend's "All Of Me" dips 3-4 on this week's tally, after peaking in its 13th week (it's in 14th frame this week). It gains heavily due to its hold at #1 in the United States. Additionally, it benefits from the growth of its Tiësto Birthday Treatment Remix at US radio, and its inclusion on the CDS Music Chart playlist for the fifth week (previously only spins stemming from the original version of the song were counted toward the song's overall chart position). At this point, the track has a 5% chance at reaching #1 before the end of its run on the Hot 50. "All of Me" drops 29-40 on the Voter's Top 50 this week, leads the R&B/Soul chart for a 5th week and dips 3-4 on the Dance component chart.

Disclosure's first ever United States hit, "Latch (feat. Sam Smith)", drops 4-5 after peaking at #3 and holding at #4 for a 3rd consecutive frame. This week it droops just a tad to 89 (-1) spins. After peaking at #3 just a few weeks ago, the track has remained level for the most part. In recent weeks it has jumped 12%, upped another 2%, stayed even with no changes, and dropped 4%. That smoothes out to a 10% increase during this month. "Latch" ranks at #49 on the Voter's Top 50, causing it to experience percentage drops for the second time throughout its 2 month run.

OneRepublic's "Love Runs Out" moves 7-6 on this week's tally, despite dropping 16-18 on the Voter's Top 50 and a large move on US Radio (#30; up 9 from the end of last week). Last week, OneRepublic became one of a few artists to tally at least one song in the top 10 for 26 or more consecutive weeks. "Counting Stars" was previously listed within the top 10 for 25 weeks, the second longest run within the region. "Runs" spends a 3nd week in the top 10, with this frame being its first frame alone with no other OneRepublic tracks.

Lorde's former 3 week #1 "Team" drops 6-7 on the tally due to the rise of OneRepublic. This week it drops to 84 plays (-2), a fairly mild drop, unlike the one we saw last week with the same song.. As noted multiple times, Lorde's "Royals" (her first top 10 single/entry) previously peaked at #8 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. It's also worth noting that "Team" topped the list in its 20th week on the chart. That would have tied for "Longest Climb to #1" if this event had happened back in 2013 (with Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8"), but OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" recently completed a 24 week journey to the top slot just a few weeks ago. Follow up single, "Glory and Gore", ranks at #56 on the extender chart, barely misssing inclusion in this week's top 50 for the 4th week in a row. "Team" ranks at #24 on the Voter's Top 50. The 10 position decline on the Voter's list contributes to the track's single position slide on the official Hot 50.

As noted above, Coldplay's "Magic" elevates 13-8 to become the band's second top 10 single after the #2 peaking "A Sky Full of Stars" (which holds the runner up position for a 3rd consecutive week). The track soars into the top 10 courtesy of a large bump in chart points alongside the release of its parent album, Ghost Stories. Following close behind is "Midnight" (the band's 1st promotional release of the new era), which is breaking havoc in the lower regions of the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. Another track from the new album, "Another's Arms", opens at #58 on the extended chart. See the full top 10 bubbling songs at the end of this post.

Iggy Azalea's latest single, "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)", bounces 11-9 fueled by a rise to the top 5 on US radio. The track becomes Iggy's first ever top 10 single, while becoming Charli XCX's second consecutive top 10 single. Her first entry, "I Love It" (alongside Icona Pop), peaked at #1 for a single week and went on to become one of the largest tracks of the year (2013). Will "Fancy" become the next "I Love It"? It's hard to tell. Why? Because Nicki Minaj's latest release (and direct competitor), "Pills N Potions", opens at #18 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 this week.

Shakira's "Empire" holds at #10 this week. It recently spent a 4th and final non-consecutive week at #1. To date the track has spent 9 weeks within the top 5, and 13 within the top 10. It has collected about 600 points to date, suggesting that the track will end it's run with over 850 points in the bank. That should be a solid improvement over the final numbers for "Can't Remember to Forget You" (the singer's previous single) which started out strong but collapsed somewhat quickly. The latter track has picked up just over 700 points, and should wind up with just under 800 points by the end of its run.

That's right readers! Nicki Minaj's new single,"Pills N Potions", opens at #18 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 this week (as previously announced). Spiking its large debut? A wild sum of votes on the Voters Hot 50 (which resulted in a #1 opening) as well as spins from the nation's stations.

A bit lower on the list, "Do It Again" by Röyksopp & Robyn opens at #24 on the CDS Music Chart 50. The Scandinavian artistic group is responsibble for a 35 minute song collection that is a breath of fresh life. It's bound for great things. The track's official parent mini album (of the same name) is out as of May 26th, 2014.
