Chart Highlights: Sanna Nielsen Hits Top 10

Kiesza's breakout hit, "Hideaway", holds at #1 for a third consecutive week. Just two frames ago, "Hideaway" became only the 9th track in history to open in the #1 position. More amazingly, Kiesza became the first ever artist to launch at #1 with their debut single. Tallying a final weekly total of 108 chart points, "Hideaway" is the second song to tally over 100 points in any three frames. The first track to achieve this amazing feat was Lady Gaga's "Do What U Want", which spent it's first three weeks past 100 points. This week, "Hideaway" posted a 1.8% decrease in points from the amount of points it scored last week. "Hideaway" drops 7-12 on the Voter's Top 40 despite a two percent increase. That brings its approval rate to 31%. Overall, 170 voters cast over 1,700 votes to determine the "Best Songs of the Week" among CDS Music Chart twitter followers and users. Kiesza also holds at #1 on the Dance and Streaming component charts for a third consecutive frame.

Colplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" holds at #2 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 for the second straight week. The track jumps by a noticeable 3%, becoming the only track in history to tack two frames above 100 while in the runner up position. That's one of the largest totals for any song not in the #1 position. "Stars" drops 20-24 on the Voter's Top 40 though edging up to a 26% approval rating (a 7% gain), holds at #2 on the Dance component chart and remaining at #1 on the Pop chart for a second straight week. Additionally, Coldplay's lead single from their new album Ghost Stories, "Magic", moves 15-13 (a new peak). Read my album review for Ghost Stories.

John Legend's "All Of Me" bounds 5-3 on this week's tally, to a brand new peak in week #13. It gains heavily due to its rise to #1 in the United States. Additionally, it benefits from the growth of its Tiësto Birthday Treatment Remix at US radio, and its inclusion on the CDS Music Chart playlist for the fourth week (previously only spins stemming from the original version of the song were counted toward the song's overall chart position). At this point, the track has a 25% chance at reaching #1 before the end of its run on the Hot 50. "All of Me" drops 17-29 on the Voter's Top 40 this week, leads the R&B/Soul chart for a 4th week and climbs 4-3 on the Dance component chart.

Disclosure's first ever United States hit, "Latch (feat. Sam Smith)", holds at #4 for a 3rd consecutive frame. This week it droops just a tad to 90 (-4) spins. After peaking at #3 just a few weeks ago, the track has remained level for the most part. In recent weeks it has jumped 12%, upped another 2%, stayed even with no changes, and dropped 4%. That smoothes out to a 10% increase during this month. "Latch" fails to rank on the Voter's Top 40, causing it to experience percentage drops for the first time throughout its 2 month run.

Sanna Nielsen charges 19-5 with "Undo", the 3rd place finisher for this year's Eurovision Song Contest. "Undo" becomes the 3rd Eurovision track to reach the top 5, as well as the 4th to ever chart. Additionally, Sweden becomes the first country to see their track enter the Hot 50 for three consecutive years (the chart started in 2012; the only other entry to chart was Denmark's "Only Teardrops by Emmelie De Forest in 2013). Meanwhile this year's winner, Conchita Wurst's "Rise Like A Phoenix", bows at #57 (just short of the official chart) fueled by a #9 debut on the Voter's Top 40 (with a 33% approval rating). "Undo" charges 11-5 on the Dance chart and 15-3 on Pop Songs.

Lorde's former 3 week #1 "Team" drops 3-6 on the tally due to the rise of the Sanna Nielsen and John Legend tracks. This week it drops to 86 plays (-9), a fairly steep drop, similar to the one we saw last week when "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" by Katy Perry plummeted 3-6. As noted multiple times, Lorde's "Royals" (her first top 10 single/entry) previously peaked at #8 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. It's also worth noting that "Team" topped the list in its 20th week on the chart. That would have tied for "Longest Climb to #1" if this event had happened back in 2013 (with Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8"), but OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" recently completed a 24 week journey to the top slot just a few weeks ago. Follow up single, "Glory and Gore", ranks at #53 on the extender chart, barely misssing inclusion in this week's top 50 for the 3rd week in a row. "Team" ranks at #14 on the Voter's Top 40. The 5 position decline on the Voter's list contributes to the track's 3 position slide on the official Hot 50.

OneRepublic's "Love Runs Out" moves 8-7 on this week's tally, courtesy of a 10 position gain on the Voter's Top 40 (26-16) and a large move on US Radio (#39; unlisted prior). With this frame, OneRepublic becomes one of a few artists to tally at least one song in the top 10 for 26 or more consecutive weeks. This week, "Counting Stars" exits the top 10 (10-11) after 25 weeks. "Runs" spends a 2nd week in the top 10, with this frame being its first frame alone with no other OneRepublic tracks.

Lady Gaga's "G.U.Y." slides 7-8 on this week's chart. It previously reached a new peak in week #14 (the track is currently in week #18). Of note this week, the track surpasses the 600 point barrier, (100 more than needed for Gold) and ranks #94 all time. It is the 5th Lady Gaga track to be certified Gold (500+). The track is Lady Gaga's 5th top 5 single to date. "Applause", "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" and "Venus" all peaked at #1, and "Mary Jane Holland" peaked at #3. Additionally, Gaga's other top 10s include: "MANiCURE" which peaked at #7 , "Sexxx Dreams" which reached #8 and "Aura" which previously stopped at #10. That's the most top 10 entries from the same album in history. "G.U.Y" dips 2-3 on the Voter's Top 40 with a 42% approval rating, down a hefty 12%.

Katy Perry's "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" dives 6-9 on this week's chart. It previously spent three straight frames at #2. With this frame, "Horse" tallies a 21st week within the top 10, which ranks 3rd place all time. Additionally, it widens it's lead over "Unconditionally" as Katy's biggest track to date, ranking #16 all time. If "Horse" ever reaches #1, it will set the record for the longest climb to a peak, as well as set a new record for longest climb to #1. "Horse" gallops 18-15 on the Voter's Top 40, though still continuing to drop.

Shakira's "Empire" dips 9-10 this week. It recently spent a 4th and final non-consecutive week at #1. To date the track has spent 9 weeks within the top 5, and 12 within the top 10. It has collected about 560 points to date, suggesting that the track will end it's run with over 850 points in the bank. That should be a solid improvement over the final numbers for "Can't Remember to Forget You" (the singer's previous single) which started out strong but collapsed somewhat quickly. The latter track has picked up just over 700 points, and should wind up with just under 800 points by the end of its run.
