Analysis:
Lady Gaga easily won the night with 4 awards being presented to her. Although this is the most carried out by an artist in a single year (so far), she was nominated 8 times. Winning any less would be dissapointing. Last year Rihanna took 8 nominations, only winning 1. After that disappointment, she redeemed herself this year by winning "Best Collaboration" for a second straight year. Out of the 9 nominations she has received, Rihanna has bagged 2.
Katy Perry took 2 awards out of the 6 she received nominations for. She should have bagged only 1, but was an unexpected winner in the "Most Hyped Artist" category.
Eminem took 2 out of 6 nominatons. He scored a solid amount of awards for several reasons. The first is that two of his songs were nominated for "Best Rap Record", therefore he was only in 5 categories and could only win up to 5 awards. He did good against Lady Gaga but bombed when both Lady Gaga and Katy Perry were in a category with him.
Ellie Goulding won 1 award this year, but it was for "Artist of the Year" (one of the two most sought after awards). She narrowly took it from Lady Gaga (who was the initial favorite to win). Last year she was nominated for 2 awards but didn't win either. She is considered a big winner this year, as "Figure 8" came in 2nd place for "Pop Record" and tied for 2nd place in "Song of the Year".
Vita Chambers had two nominations this year and won "Best New Artist" by a hefty amount of votes. She won an award last year for the now defunct "CDS Pick Hit" which honored her song "Fix You" as the song with the most potential heading into 2013.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were nominated 4 times (in 3 categories) but didn't win anything. Both of their songs in the "Rap Record" category combined got less than the next lowest voted song. They won a single award last year, so their track record isn't too bad.
Katy Tiz was nominated 3 times but didn't win anything either. But that's okay because her song "Red Cup" was hailed by me as the best charting song of the summer this year. That is a special award altogether so don't count her out.
Mia Martina went up against Katy Tiz in the same categories, and won the award for "Best Dance Record". She came in behind Katy in "Song of the Year" but barely in front of her in "Best New Artist".
Sharon Doorson (nominated for "Best New Artist") historically became the only nominee to get no votes at all. Her latest song, "Run, Run", opened at #17, peaked at #16 and departed the chart 2 weeks ago after 9 weeks on.
Rihanna wins the 1st ever CDS Chart Award for being a global Icon (the "Icon Award"). She has churned out 14 charting songs including 4 #1's, 10 top 10s and the quick rising "What Now" (#25). She has 1 silver certified song (250+ points), 6 gold certified songs (500+ points), 2 double platinum songs (1250+ points) and a single (1) diamond certified single (1500+ points) which is the first of its kind. Overall, her song "Where Have You Been" is the best preforming song in the history of my chart.
