Although just 9 spins separated it from "Venus" this week, "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" by Lady Gaga falls 85 spins this week (from last week's record breaking opening) to 126 spins (-40.3%). That is about the level I predicted and its fall is just about 8% worse compared to the fall I saw with "Applause". Still it has a lead of 337 spins versus the 262 spins "Applause" received through the same time period (a +28% lead). I fully expect another at least 12% decline in week 3, which could actually see the song rise to #1 again. We will see later on.
Lady Gaga tallies a third song in the top 10 this week as "Applause" slides 2-3. It previously ruled for 10 straight weeks before being knocked out by "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)". It dips to 90 plays (-7.21%). It could rebound to #2 next week as "Venus" will likely fall at least 30%, which would put each song in a fairly tight race for the #2 slot. Either way, "Applause" is headed for a fantastic total of over 1300 overall chart points. It bumps to the 600 point barrier and will easily nab close to 700 in 2 more weeks (another 100).
Vita Chambers slides 3-4 after hitting a high point with her new single "What If?". It displays a small dip this week to 88 spins (-2). It is Vita's third straight top 5 single after "Fix You" and "Masquerade" commanded this region earlier this year.
Avril Lavigne slides 4-5 with five time runner up song "Rock N Roll". It manages to score 85 spins (even) which is its best week. It's #2 streak has been briefly interrupted by Zedd's "Clarity (feat. Foxes)", Vita Chambers' "Masquerade", Lady Gaga's "Applause", Lady Gaga's "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" and Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" for 1 week each though it probably won't return to #2. The song's overall outcome is looking fairly good. To date it has banked 705 points and has held very well. It should go on to match it predecessor's 968 point sum. If it continues holding, it could also be on target for a top 10 of 2013 finish. If it ranks higher than position #9 for every week through the year's end, it could bank 1000 points (give or take a few points).
"Masquerade" by Vita Chambers slides 5-6 this week with the bump of "What If?" on the chart. It has yet another fantastic week and is holding very well. It will likely have a final score upwards of 800.
Katy Perry's newest promotional/buzz effort "Walking On Air"slips 6-7 on this week's chart. After 15% fall through its 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks, it gains back its full spin total of 82.That means that the song's overall chart expectancy is lowered noticeably. While that seems like a big jump to conclusions, a wave of new releases will likely cover this song up and send it falling out of the top 10. To date it has racked a decent amount of overall chart points, indicating a sign of a good finish. It will likely have a good finish, just a smaller one that originally anticipated.
Eminem's newest single "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)" blasts onto the chart at #8 this week. It starts with a stellar 78 spins. It is this week's Hot Shot Debut and quickly built in spins. Toward the end of the week it had an even higher average, which suggests that it will likely have a 'monster' second week. It is Rihanna's 8th top 10 hit and Eminem's second after "Berzerk."
Speaking of "Berzerk", it holds tight at #9 for a second straight week. With 75 spins it garners a new high weekly total. Its overall performance can't yet be calculated, but it is likely that it won't go too much higher than #9. I will be updating a lot on all the Eminem songs in the next few weeks.
Drake slides 7-10 with his fourth top 10 single "Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)". He previously hit the upper tier with the #1 single "Take Care (feat. Rihanna)", "The Motto (feat. Lil Wayne)" and "Make Me Proud (feat. Nicki Minaj)" (5th if you include "What's My Name (feat. Drake) by Rihanna which hit #1 in late 2010). He has yet to score a solo top 10, as "Started From the Bottom" failed to reach the top 50, peaking at #52 (on the Bubbling Under Chart) for a single week.
Below the top 10, Katy Perry opens at #15 with her newest single "Unconditionally". This matches the rank that "Roar" displayed in its first full week of airplay. It benefits heavily from a 15 point boost given to it from being this week's "Voter's Choice" song. You can vote once a week for your favorite song so it can get a small point boost. Hopefully this great start can help "Unconditionally" do well during its entire chart run.
The chart is coming soon! Stay tuned!
