Lady Gaga's "Applause" spends a record extending tenth straight frame atop the list with an outstanding 94 spins (even with last week). This week, the songs spends an eighth frame above 90 spins and ties its highest ranking frame since week 4 (even with last week). While it will continue to preform well, the song's reign could come to an end next week when "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" (also by Gaga) is officially released. Lady Gaga would become the only artist to debut at #1 on more than one occasion, and would continue Gaga's record breaking #1 streak. Based on snippets released online, it could have an 'applause' worthy opening. Either way, Lady Gaga will likely be #1 again.
Avril Lavigne rebounds 4-2 with now five time runner up song "Rock N Roll". It manages to score 80 spins (up 8) which is one of its best weeks. It's #2 streak has been briefly interrupted by Zedd's "Clarity (feat. Foxes)", Vita Chambers' "Masquerade" and Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" for 1 week each. A sixth week at #2 is possible to the constant fluctuation of this song. Our estimate for next week is 76 spins. Three weeks ago, the song defeated "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (which spent three non-consecutive weeks at #2) for the "Most Weeks at #2 (Without Reaching #1)" title.
Vita Chambers slides 2-3 with promotional single "Masquerade". It tallies 75 spins (down 5 from last week). Although it failed to reach #1 (Vita's prior hit hit #1 for 4 straight weeks), it's #2 peak and overall stability should help it go platinum sometime next year and become an overall top hit. "What If?" opens lower in the top 10, which could affect the top 10 performance of "Masquerade". Only time will tell.
Katy Perry's newest promotional/buzz effort "Walking On Air"slips 3-4 on this week's chart. After a strong and promising opening (82 spins), the song has collapsed to a meager 72 spins. This might not seem like such a hefty drop, but that is a 13% decrease in just two weeks. That means that the song's overall chart expectancy is lowered noticeably. While that seems like a big jump to conclusions, a wave of new releases will likely cover this song up and send it falling out of the top 10. To date it has racked a decent 144 points, indicating a sign of a good finish. It will likely have a good finish, just a smaller one that originally anticipated.
Drake moves 6-5 with his fourth top 10 single "Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)". He previously hit the upper tier with the #1 single "Take Care (feat. Rihanna)", "The Motto (feat. Lil Wayne)" and "Make Me Proud (feat. Nicki Minaj)" (5th if you include "What's My Name (feat. Drake) by Rihanna which hit #1 in late 2010). He has yet to score a solo top 10, as "Started From the Bottom" failed to reach the top 50, peaking at #52 (on the Bubbling Under Chart) for a single week.
"Work B**ch" by Britney spears moves up 7-6 this week. Three weeks ago, the song jumped 42-12 to claim the title of "Biggest Position Jump (From One Week to the Next)". Moving up 30 slots, "Work B**ch" narrowly took the crown from Nicole Scherzinger's "Boomerang" which catapulted 48-19 (up 29 slots) in the first half of 2013. Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" catapulted 31-3 just a few weeks ago (up 28 slots) and Ellie Goulding travelled up 28 slots as well to #4 with "I Need Your Love (feat. Calvin Harris)" last year. Most other jumps on the chart haven't come close to these four jumps mentioned above.
"What If?" by Vita Chambers scores this week's "Hot Shot Debut" (the third straight time she has done this) and enters the chart at #7 with a strong 70 spins. This marks the highest opening for Vita in terms of spins and position. It ranks two positions above the start of the #2 peaking "Masquerade", and 3 positions above the start of the #1 peaking "Fix You". It leads "Masquerade" by 2 spins and "Fix You" by a whopping 14 through its first week. Lots of hopes for this smash song which will without a doubt rise next week.
Karmin slides 5-8 after two weeks at #5 with "Acapella". "Brokenhearted" and "Hello", the singles that preceded "Acapella", peaked at #s 12 and 21 respectively. It scores a solid 64 spins (down just 4 spins from last week), but marks the song's first decrease in points while on the chart. It should still hold reasonably well in the coming weeks.
Lorde's "Royals" pushes 10-9 after becoming last week's 'greatest gainer'. It scores a strong 58 spins (up 10 spins from last week). It likely won't reach #1, but should become a decent top 5 hit through the end of this year and onto the next. The song's overall prospects can't be measured quite yet, but one can determine that it will go at least gold for scoring over 500 points. It's overall range will likely be 650-750 points. It has earned a little bit more than 200 spins so far.
Eminem's "Berzerk" bounds 15-10 to become Eminem's first ever top 10 single. It took 9 weeks, but it finally made it. Eminem's "Rap God" opens on the chart at #19 this week, besting the opening of "Berzerk" by 1 position. Eminem rounds out the chart this week, but by next week he will likely bound upwards.
