"Applause" by Lady Gaga slides 1-2 after a ten week reign at the top of the list. The song has racked 550 points to date and its overall total should amount to over 1300 points. That would place it among the top 5 songs to date. It actually gains by 3 airplay spins this week (to 97), and should continue to hold fantastically through the end of November or even December. It will likely crack the top 10 of 2013. To do this it needs upwards of 860 points total. Subtracting 550 gives us 310 points needed by year's end. There are 2 more months left in 2013. It would need to rank better than #13 for every week through the end of the year to reach this level (top 10 of the year), which at this point is a guaranteed lock.
"What If?" by Vita Chambers surges to 90 spins (+29%) and catapults 7-3 this week. It is the week's biggest airplay gainer and becomes Vita's third straight visit to the top 5 and top 3. "Fix You" debuted at #10 and eventually reached #1 for 4 consecutive weeks. "Masquerade" opened at #9 and went on to peak at #2 for a single week. The latter song still ranks within the top 10 this week.
Avril Lavigne slides 2-4 (opposite it's move last week) with five time runner up song "Rock N Roll". It manages to score 85 spins (up 5) which is its best week. It's #2 streak has been briefly interrupted by Zedd's "Clarity (feat. Foxes)", Vita Chambers' "Masquerade", Lady Gaga's "Applause", and Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" for 1 week each. A sixth week at #2 is possible to the constant fluctuation of this song. Our estimate for next week is 76 spins. Four weeks ago, the song defeated "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (which spent three non-consecutive weeks at #2) for the "Most Weeks at #2 (Without Reaching #1)" title. The song's overall outcome is looking fairly good. To date it has banked 660 points and has held very well. It should go on to match it predecessor's 965 point sum. If it continues holding, it could also be on target for a top 10 of 2013 finish. If it ranks higher than position #9 for every week through the year's end, it could bank 1000 points (give or take a few points).
"Masquerade" by Vita Chambers slides 3-5 this week with the bump of "What If?" on the chart. It has yet another fantastic week and is holding very well. It will likely have a final score upwards of 800.
Katy Perry's newest promotional/buzz effort "Walking On Air"slips 4-6 on this week's chart. After a strong and promising opening (82 spins), the song has collapsed to a meager 70 spins. This might not seem like such a hefty drop, but that is a 15% decrease in just three weeks. That means that the song's overall chart expectancy is lowered noticeably. While that seems like a big jump to conclusions, a wave of new releases will likely cover this song up and send it falling out of the top 10. To date it has racked a decent amount of overall chart points, indicating a sign of a good finish. It will likely have a good finish, just a smaller one that originally anticipated. The song's track record is 2-3-4-5.
Drake slides 5-7 with his fourth top 10 single "Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)". He previously hit the upper tier with the #1 single "Take Care (feat. Rihanna)", "The Motto (feat. Lil Wayne)" and "Make Me Proud (feat. Nicki Minaj)" (5th if you include "What's My Name (feat. Drake) by Rihanna which hit #1 in late 2010). He has yet to score a solo top 10, as "Started From the Bottom" failed to reach the top 50, peaking at #52 (on the Bubbling Under Chart) for a single week.
Lorde's "Royals" pushes 9-8 after becoming last week's 'greatest gainer'. It scores a strong 60 spins (up 2 spins from last week). It likely won't reach #1, but should become a decent top 5 hit through the end of this year and onto the next. The song's overall prospects can't be measured quite yet, but one can determine that it will go at least gold for scoring over 500 points. It's overall range will likely be 650-750 points. It has earned a little bit more than 200 spins so far.
Eminem's "Berzerk" bounds 10-9. Last week (after 9 weeks) it became Eminem's first ever top 10 single. Eminem's "Rap God"moves 19-17 this week, besting the first two weeks of "Berzerk" by quite a bit of points. Eminem could find more success on my chart next week when "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)" debuts. Based on data from the two artists, a top 10 opening is pretty much a guarantee.
Lady Gaga zooms 12-10 with "Aura". With the move, Lady Gaga nets a 4th straight top 10 single from ARTPOP. "Sexxx Dreams" previously opened at #8, while "Applause" and "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" both started at #1. A fifth song from the album, "Venus", opens at #42 this week after just two hours of a snippet being available on YouTube.
Come back for the Halloween chart!
