While the video is easily her simplest one to date, it's also one of her most creative efforts in recent memory. Because of this, I decide to break down the video (if you haven't yet watched or do not wish to watch the clip).
But before we get to that, let's recap what else has happened to Nicki Minaj on CDS Music Chart Hot 50. Direct from the CDS archives:

In addition to collecting her 11th top 10 (the second most behind Rihanna's count of 12), Nicki Minaj wound up as the 4th place best performing artist on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 (2012-present) when a 2 1/2 year scan ran through all the points earned by artists on the chart.
Here are the highlights from the "Pills N Potions" video.
Nicki Minaj sprouts metallic foil looking "goo" from her fingers and streaks them across her love interest, The Game. These metallic scenes were not confined to just this section of the video, as they appear as perfume on Minaj's body and as smoke arising from cigarettes as well.
The metallic foil "goo" appears once more, this time sprouting from the mouth of a rabbit attempting (somewhat successfully) to smoke. While this was one of the oddest portions of the video, it seemed to display a large amount of imagery.
On the left hand side, Nicki sits on a gray stool dressed head to toe in black clothing. She lifts up her shirt and exposes her breasts (though they are somewhat covered by her arms). On the right hand side, Nicki lies down on a blue background. She's surrounded in a think pink cloud of smoke in the scene. In the final highlight scene, The Game bites Nicki's rabbit ears as she tugs on his fur coast jacket while starting into an abyss.
Rewind the Hot 50: Is Lana Del Rey's 3 In A Row A Record?
If you're a long time reader of my blog, you'll note that lots of artists have doubled up with tracks on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 (back to back position/placing). Many artists including Adele, Robin Thicke, Marina & the Diamonds, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez, Sia, Pitbull, Eminem, Sharon Doorson, Carrie Underwood, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Loreen, Bruno Mars, Karmin, Katy Perry, Cher Lloyd, Justin Timberlake and Ke$ha have all done it once or twice. However, some other artists have achieved this feat numerous times - some of which were during back to back weeks. The artist with the most number of 2 back to back positioned tracks? Surprisingly Maroon 5 with a massive count of 23 back to back pair spread across 22 weeks. Other artists with around 6 or more counts are Ellie Goulding, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Calvin Harris, Christina Aguilera, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Beyoncé and Rihanna.
But what's more impressive than that? Artist who strung together 3 back-to-back-to-back tracks. The first artist to achieve this feat was Nicki Minaj on 2/9/12 (no surprise there). Drake did it next on 2/23/12. Rihanna followed on 3/29/12 and Pitbull did it a month later on 4/26/12. Then after five months of silence, P!nk (aided by a top 10 debut) took 3 back-to-back-to-back tracks into the top 10 on 9/26/12. Surprisingly, P!nk did it again the following week... and yet again the following week, becoming the first and only artist to string together 3 back-to-back-to-back tracks in 3 consecutive weeks. A few months later, Maroon 5 became the first artist to string together tracks in 4 consecutive position on a single issue. At the tail end of 2013, Lady Gaga became the second artist to string together 3 back-to-back-to-back tracks in multiple consecutive weeks. On November 21st, 2013 Lady Gaga became the second artist to string together tracks in 4 consecutive position on a single issue.
So, no. Lana Del Rey's 3 position string on this week's chart is not a record feat, yet still it's somewhat impressive.
Chart Highlights: Nicki Minaj Scores 11th Top 10 As Summer Songs Competition Kicks Off
There isn't a whole lot of change to this week's top 10 (with 6 songs remaining at the same position they ranked last week), but it's worth diving into this week's numbers a bit more than I usually do, given that this is the first week of the Summer Songs competition. Additionally, I'll explain how the slew of upcoming new releases will negatively reflect upon currently charting songs. If you're interested in learning about tracks shifting below the top 10, scroll to the bottom where you'll find the Voter's Top 10 (the most voted for tracks by the general public), this week's chart debuts and four genre based charts. Let's dive right into the summer fun.
The first of 6 consecutive singles to remain at the same position as last week, Kiesza's "Hideaway" holds at the chart's summit for a 6th consecutive week. With it's 6th frame at #1 (and 6th overall on the chart), Kiesza becomes the second longest running #1 debut (behind the 11 non-consecutive week run of "Applause") as well as the only song to rack 100 points or more for 6 weeks, further extending it's lead (it surpassed "Do What U Want" after it's second week past 100). Despite this, all tracks have grown in strength throughout the year, with the top 7 all passing 90 points this week (4 at 100 or above). A similar frame in 2012 (June 21st) had 6 tracks pass 90 and 3 past 100. That means that this week narrowly becomes the largest airplay week in history. As the track slows to 106 plays (a low), it's highly likely its reign at #1 will continue past this week. Currently, "Hideaway" is the #1 song of the summer (to date; 1st week of summer) as the annual competition kicks off this week.

Sanna Nielsen's Eurovison entry, "Undo", holds at its #2 highpoint for a second week. Though it dips to 104 plays, "Undo" closes the gap between it and "Hideaway" as a mere two points separate the tracks this week. At this point, it possible that "Undo" reaches the summit of the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 as early as next week. That should give it the upper hand for the rest of the summer (which would easily translate into a huge summer season total) unless it falls victim to Maroon 5's "Maps" which becomes eligible to chart starting with the June 26th issue (unless it leaks early). Unfortunately for Nielsen, Maroon 5's track record is among the strongest of any artist; they've debuted in the top 10 a total of 4 times and have had all charted tracks eventually reach the top 5 (including album tracks; a total of 7 consecutive top 5 singles). The good news is that "Undo" has started to connect with the public audience (it rises 14-10 on the Voter's Choice Top 70), which is a good sign for its future.
In 3rd place this week, Coldplay's "A Sly Full of Stars" holds at #3 for a second week. Though it never reached the summit of the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 (it peaked at #2 for 3 weeks), "Stars" has continually reached past the 100 spins mark (clocking in at 101 this week). With that holding strength, "Stars" will likely become a monster success for Coldplay this year. As the 3rd annual summer songs completion kicks off with a sizzling start, Coldplay occupies the #3 slot and the #4 slot, becoming the highest scoring band of the competition so far.
As previously hinted, Coldplay's "Magic" holds at #4 for a second straight week. Surprisingly, the track has become a major success for the band throughout their 2014 comeback album cycle. This week it moves to 100 spins, becoming the only track to peak with 100 even (so far). To date, the track has scored 3 weeks in the top 10, including two weeks at #4 and a single week at #8. It's likely that "Magic" caps off soon, which will translate into a mild summer 2014 score.
Following the massive success of their two week #1 single, "Counting Stars", OneRepublic had to step up their came to harness a hit of the same magnitude. Luckily, they came across the long shelved/unfinished "Love Runs Out". After fixing up the chorus and several stand out lines, "Love Runs Out" was born. OneRepublic's attempt at servicing radio and the public with a worthy new jam succeeded. "Runs" holds at #5 for a 2nd consecutive week, tallying a 6th week within the top 10. Hopefully the track will be able to match the success of 24 week top 10 single, "Counting Stars". I'm "counting" on it to.
Last week's #6 track, Iggy Azalea's "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)", remains even again at #6, though it gains by nearly 10% in overall points (as do the tracks ranked #3-5). While that's a pretty large leap, a direct competitor (Nicki Minaj's "Pills N Potions") finished this week just 2 points off of it (91). That suggests that "Fancy" won't hold as well as initially hoped. Still, it has managed a decent run and should be able to smooth it's soon-to-come downfall given the fact that American audiences think it's the best track on the market right now (#1 US Billboard Hot 100, #1 Radio, #1 Streaming, #1 Rap, etc.).

Clean Bandit's "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" edges 10-8, hitting a new peak in its 18th week on the chart. It previously tallied two weeks at #9 toward the start of its run and a total of five non-consecutive weeks at #10 (a record tying total). Katy Perry's "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" first strung together 5 non-consecutive weeks at #10 between December 2013 and February 2014. Given the track's impressively strong track record, "Rather Be" will likely close past 900 points (it passes 650 points this week).
John Legend's "All of Me" drops 7-9 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 though it racks up more points than it did last week. Unfortunately, "All of Me" is likely to close with just more than 700. That's an utter disappointment given its huge popularity with public audiences. However, the track's entire run has been contained within 2014. If it does close past 700, the track will likely rank within the top 30 at the end of the year.
Closing out the top 10, Disclosure's #3 peaking single "Latch (feat. Sam Smith)" swaps positions with Clean Bandit's "Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)" ("Be" adjusts up 10-8, while "Latch" drops 8-10). It should rebound somewhat within the next few weeks, as it is just starting to warm up in the United States (which in turn will help the track on the Voter's Top 70).
Upcoming Summer Songs Competition Candidates
-"Am I Wrong" by Nico & Vinz
It's not exactly new, but the #39 launch of Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" on this week's chart indicates that the track is starting to grow immensely in popularity. It should be able to perform decently throughout most of the Summer season, which causes me to list it as a serious contender for a top 10 finish on the 2014 Summer Songs list.
-"Maps" by Maroon 5
Given the track record of Maroon 5 on both the Summer Songs and Year End lists in previous years, "Maps" (impacting in the 3rd week of summer 2014 tracking) should be a huge candidate for a top 5 finish on the 2014 Summer Songs list. To be honest, anything below #10 on the Summer Songs list would be a disappointment and a first week opening below #3 would also be a disappointment (that might give you a little idea of how strong Maroon 5's openings have been in the past).
-"Everybody" Oceana
While the cheesiness of "Everybody" will likely cause it to have a subpar run, it should still manage to do some strong business on the 2014 Summer Songs list. The track's success worldwide should also be able to help it do a bit better than first thought. It's a vibrant summer dance anthem that's going to knock your flip flops off!
-"Satisfaction Guaranteed" by Alyssa Reid
Although "Satisfaction Guaranteed" has already peaked worldwide (last year), it's just starting to warm up on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. It should be able to finish the year as one of the largest singles (based on its sound).

CDS Picks: Neon Jungle, Celine Dion and PSY Return
Welcome to yet another installment in CDS Music Chart's wildly popular CDS Picks feature. This time, I'm focusing on new recordings by Neon Jungle, SEVDALIZA, Celine Dion, Snoop Dogg, and PSY. The trance washed "Sirens of the Caspian" comes courtesy of the upcoming and promising new act from The Netherlands, SEVDALIZA who's currently blowing up the internet. So what's causing SEVDALIZA to wind up ahead of the rest of the indie/unsigned pack? Not only is she capable of captivating the ears of intrigued listeners, she knows how to accurately market her track. Premiered alongside the audio of the track, the song's official music video showcases snakes, sex, grunge, grills, dark scenes, colorful sequences and of course the amazingly produced track it self. Thanks to SEVDALIZA, we've got a brand new track to indulge in this summer.
Neon Jungle - "Louder"It's a bit cheesy for sure (lyrically), but "Louder" is a marked improvement for Neon Jungle (faring much better than "Welcome to the Jungle" and the group's other prior releases in my book). With it's Rihanna inspired vocals and distinctive British sound, Neon Jungle's "Louder" could perhaps be the next europop/eurodance hit heard around the world.
The official video was filmed in the girls' native UK and takes place in an empty, sky-high domed building. Cameras focus on the group together as well as the 4 members separately. Individually, the camera swirls around the members in a very dramatic fashion (rotating one by one). The video had a nice idea (loud vocals bouncing off a domed amphitheater), but it seemed a bit over simplified. It needed to have a story (however my opinion of the video doesn't correlate with my thoughts on the song itself).
When first released as a single from Celine Dion's recently released English album, "Incredible" failed to connect with audiences around the world. It performed mediocrely in most countries that it received official release in.
Fortunately, it has the opportunity to resurrect itself. With the release of the track's official music video, it could eventually start to appear (or in some cases reappear) on charts around the world. It's a pretty decent video clip, however several close up shots should have definitely been removed from the final edit of the video (if you know what I mean).
PSY - "Hangover (feat. Snoop Dogg)"After the major disappointment that was "Gentleman", PSY has tried to reinvent himself by featuring a faded American rapper on his latest attempt at worldwide success, "Hangover".
While "Hangover" isn't as captivating as "Gangnam Style" (#9 on CDS Music Chart Hot 50 in 2012), it marks a promising improvement over 2013's "Gentleman". While the full track has yet to debut on the web, several special clips have been exclusively released to promote the new release.
If it enters the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 upon release, PSY will score his 2nd Hot 50 entry and Snoop Dogg/Snoop Lion/Snoop Whatever will score his first entry.

Rihanna reigns as the number 1 artist by a hefty 3200 points. Despite this, Nicki Minaj's total of entries stands at 19, 2 more than Rihanna's amount. Unfortunately for Minaj, Rihanna's tracks brought in an average of 2 times more points. Maroon 5 currently ranks at #2 on this list, but Lady Gaga should soon be able to overtake the pop group. Despite this, Maroon 5 will return with a new single, "Maps", set to be released in less than 10 days. That will likely help the group retain their position. By the end of the year, Maroon 5 could pass 10,000 overall chart points if they release 4 singles with chart runs similar to their other tracks.

Album Review: Animal Ambition by 50 Cent
Some of the major highlights from Animal Ambition are "Hold On", "Pilot" and "Smoke (feat. Trey Songz)". Additionally, "Flip On You (feat. SchoolBoy Q)" also deserves some praise (unfortunately, it is only song to not have an accompanying video).
