Holding at #2 for an 8th straight week, OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" continues its streak for "Most Weeks At #2 (Without Reaching #1)". The record was previously held by Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll" (5 weeks in 2013). Additionally, the song just recently became the only #2 peaking song to spend time behind 3 or more different #1's. Previously, Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us" spent 9 overall weeks at #2 behind 4 different #1's. While Macklemore's song would be the holder of the two previously mentioned records, it ended its 9 week #2 stay by vaulting to the #1 position the following week and staying for an additional 2 weeks. This week, "Counting Stars" was down by 6%, giving Ayah a 2.5% overall point lead for the second straight week.
Shakira's "Can't Remember To Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" holds at #3 on the tally with a 5% decrease in points. The single just recently became Rihanna's 12th non-consecutive top 5 hit (the most for any artist on this chart so far), and at this point has a chance at becoming the artist's 6th #1 single. As previously mentioned, it is Shakira's only top 10 hit. To date the song has racked up 274 overall points through its first 6 frames out of a possible 300 (which would require 6 straight weeks at #1).
“Drunk In Love (feat. Jay Z)” moves 5-4 to a new peak in week #11. At this point, the track has a shot at being Beyoncé's first ever #1 track. The cut leads R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a 2nd consecutive week.
"Unconditionally" slides 4-5 after a 3 week command in the #1 position. Although sliding by a mere 5%, the song was beat by OneRepublic's "Counting Stars", Shakira's "Can't Remember To Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" and for the first time "Drunk In Love (feat. Jay Z)" for the #4 position on this week's chart. In fact the margin was so thin that "Drunk In Love (feat. Jay Z)" almost spent another week at #5.
Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)” gallops to a new peak of 6. This 4 position gain comes courtesy of an 8.5% point increase this past week. The track sports the increase due to the worldwide premiere of official music video clip. As per the rules of the chart, the song can be awarded a one time 5 point boost if I watch the clip. Without the one time boost, the song would have likely bumped 10-9 instead. The clip helps the song end its longstanding 10th place curse. The “curse” halted “Horse” in the #10 position on the chart for the past 5 straight weeks, and 6 weeks overall.
Jason Derülo’s “Talk Dirty (feat. 2 Chainz)” elevates 8-7 despite taking a 2% overall point tumble. On component and genre related charts the song swaps both up and down. On Pop Songs the single slides 3-5 from its peak position. The cut rises 3-2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs only behind Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love (feat. Jay Z)” which tallies a 2nd week atop the genre based list. Additionally the song back-tracks 6-7 on Radio Songs. Finally the song vaults 9-6 on the Voter’s Choice Top 10.
Eminem's previous #1 single, "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)", dips 6-8 after holding at #6 for a third straight week. This week, the song drops a hefty 9% from amount of plays it received last week. The song spends a 17th week in the top 10 (its entire run thus far) which ties for the 4th longest top 10 stay with Lady Gaga's recently top 10 departed "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" (17 weeks in top 10; Gaga's track slides 9-12 this week during its 18th week). In 3rd place, Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" and "Diamonds" claim 22 weeks apiece while Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll" claims 2nd place with 24 weeks (Lavigne's hit spends a record extending 31st week in the top 20). Lady Gaga's "Applause" which dips 12-14 hailed over the top 10 for 26 weeks including a record 11 weeks at the summit.
Mariah Carey's most recent single "You're Mine (Eternal)" blasts 13-9 after becoming the HOT SHOT DEBUT last week. Up 8% this week, the track becomes Mariah's first single to reach the top 10. Yet again the song was propelled upward by the success of it's remixes. As a result of the multi-format expansions, "Mine" ups its ante on Dance Songs (7-3), R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (4-4), Pop Songs (11-8) and Radio Songs (16-8). The cut previews Carey's latest studio set which is due for a May 6th release.
To round out the top 10, Calvin Harris scoops up yet another top 10 hit (first alongside Alesso) as "Under Control (feat. Hurts)" inches 11-10. Like "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" the single was stuck in place for many consecutive weeks. The song moves 6-4 on Dance Songs. The single is only Harris' 2nd top 10 single to not feature any female vocals (his normal recipe for success).
His other non-female assisted track to hit the region, "Let's Go (feat. Ne-Yo)", peaked at #10 back in 2012. In terms of female assisted tracks, Harris has hit #1 twice as lead artist ["Thinking About You (feat. Ayah Marar)", "Sweet Nothing (feat. Florence Welch)"] and once as a featured artist [Rihanna's "We Found Love"]. His other non #1 female assisted track, "I Need Your Love (feat. Ellie Goulding)", was at one point the longest running song in the history of CDS Music (a full year; 52 weeks) but has since been taken over by 3 more songs which have all surpassed it. Harris is officially credited as a contributing artist on 4 of CDS Music's 22 platinum or better certified songs (all 4 featured female vocals). He was the producer of a 5th, Rihanna's "Where Have You Been", which is the best performing track in history. This makes him one of the most successful artists to ever land on the chart.
