Emmelie De Forest was crowned the winner of the 2013 Eurovision Contest in the early hours of May 19th, 2013. She was so far ahead, that the voting was cut off and she was announced winner. The voting later resumed (only a few countries were left), but did little to the end result. Emmelie's song "Only Teardrops" scored 281 points total (including a perfect 12 from the likes of Sweden and other countries). It follows last year's winner (Loreen's "Euphoria"), which went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2012 in many countries. Although she won, her path to victory wasn't exactly clear. Her biggest competitors were (in no particular order): Ukraine, Russia, Norway and Azerbaijan. Emmelie narrowly beat out Azerbaijan's "Hold On" (by about 50 points), which ultimately came in second place. Ukraine's "Gravity" came in third place just 20 points behind Azerbaijan. Norway and Russia came in fourth and fifth place. To be honest the top 4 songs were all very good, and in our opinion any of them could deserve to win.
