Coming off a massively successful era that spawned 3 Top 20 singles on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50, including the #1 single "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)" and the top 10 smash "Berzerk", Eminem has announced a new era. The veteran rapper's 9th studio LP, SHADY XV, will be released on Black Friday (November 28th) and will be preceded by the release of lead single, "Guts Over Fear (feat. Sia)" on August 25th.
Marking the 15 year anniversary of Eminem's career in the music business, the new album is set to have an interesting release. Due to Nielsen Soundscan's album tracking week beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday, SHADY XV will only have 3 days to accumulate sales during its first week (opposed to 6 or 7 for a typical release), which leads me to believe that there's a twist involved. It's highly likely that SHADY XV's performance plays out like Beyonce's self titled surprise 5th studio album, which went into a digital only release and sold over 600,000 copies between Friday-Sunday (300,000 of those came within the set's first three hours of availability).
Additionally, SHADY XV will easily benefit from dropping on the largest shopping day of the year. If the album isn't a digital exclusive, something tells me that Amazon or Target will either carry a special version or have extremely slashed prices... or both.
Will SHADY XV play out like Beyonce's self titled surprise 5th studio album or like Lady Gaga's Born This Way, or is there something else we don't yet know about?
Make sure to watch the 31st annual Video Music Awards live on MTV tonight at 9/8c, as Eminem has announced that there's going to be a surprise coming.
Blink and you'll miss it… #VMAs #SHADYXV
