CDS Music Top 100 of 2013: #100 - #91

Welcome to the first installment in a 10 part series documenting my Year End 2013 top 100 singles. In this post I will be covering song #100 through song #91.

Sit back relax and enjoy as I break down this year's 100 best performers!

Weeks refer to weeks on overall, peak refers to peak overall, but points ONLY refer to points scored within 2013. Certifications are based on overall points.

For example "Love Somebody" by Maroon 5 only ranks #99 with 281 points but was certified Gold and spent 35 weeks on the chart (including 1 at #1) because most of its chart run was in 2012. It 'bled' over into 2013. In total it scored 881 points (600 of which were tallied in 2012).

Also my point method changed between 2012 and 2013 (it likely won't change again). This is because I expanded to 50 positions (previously 40) all point values are incorrect on the 2012 Year End Chart but the ranks, weeks and peaks are all correct.

100.  "Mary Jane Holland" by Lady Gaga
Peak: 3
Weeks On:
Points: 280
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 174
Certification: Silver

One of the better tracks from "ARTPOP". It debuted at #5 before reaching a peak of #3 the following week. It quickly descended and ranks as the #100 song of the year by a margin of 3 points. It has spent 7 weeks on the chart, and if it is released as a single, it could have a very large overall run.

99. "Love Somebody" by Maroon 5
Peak:1 (x1)
Weeks On: 35
Points: 281
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 34
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 31 (-68)

A perfect example of what could happen to "Mary Jane Holland". "Love Somebody" by Maroon 5 only ranks #99 with 281 points but was certified Gold and spent 35 weeks on the chart (including 1 at #1) because most of its chart run was in 2012. It 'bled' over into 2013. In total it scored 881 points (600 of which were tallied in 2012).

98. "Unconditionally" by Katy Perry
Peak:10
Weeks On: 8
Points: 282
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 173
Certification: Silver

Reaching my chart's top 10 in the final week of 2013, "Unconditionally" had a slow rise through the chart. In fact, it failed to duplicate the success of "Roar" worldwide, prompting Capitol Records to rush release a 3rd single from the album ("Dark Horse"). While most of the world may have already given up on this single, I truly believe that "Unconditionally" will out peak "Roar" (#3 for a week) eventually.

97. "What Now" by Rihanna
Peak:6
Weeks On: 10
Points: 283
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 172
Certification: Silver

It became the singer's 11th top 10 single just recently. Although it made the upper tier, it is the artist's lowest peaking top 10 single (though it is possible that it makes the top 5 later on). It is also one of the singer's lowest preforming songs of all time.

96. "Tonight (feat. Ne-Yo)" by Jessica Sanchez
Peak: 14
Weeks On: 10
Points: 284
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 169
Certification: Silver

Last year's American Idol runner-up teamed up with seasoned performer Ne-Yo for a single that had lots of Top 40 potential. Unfortunately, this song was snubbed by most American radio stations and under-performed. It quickly vacated the top 50 and ultimately under preformed on my list.

95. "The Only Way" by Shermanology
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 10
Points: 285

2012-2013/All Time Rank: 169

Certification: Silver

Shermanology, a dutch family group, is known for one hit in the United States (with Afrojack). When this song was first released it immediately shot into the chart's top 20. It spent a few weeks fluctuating within the top 20 eventually peaking at #11 for a single week. It ultimately dropped off the list after 10 weeks (again it was snubbed by American radio).

94. "DNA" by Little Mix"
Peak: 7

Weeks On: 23

Points: 288

2012-2013/All Time Rank: 128

Certification: Silver
Last Year (2012): 83 (-11)

Scoring over 200 points in 2012, "DNA" had one of the weirdest split years. It spent several months off the list before rebounding and spending a 23rd and final week off the list.

93. "La La Love" by Ivi Adamou
Peak: 7

Weeks On: 9

Points: 301

2012-2013/All Time Rank: 169

Certification: Silver
Last Year (2012): 134 (+31)

A contender for Eurovision 2012, Ivi Adamou landed on the list in the final week of 2012. It did some great business in the first 2 months of 2013, but fell 15-42 in its 9th week on the chart, its last.

 92. " Spectrum (feat. Calvin Harris)" by Florence + The Machine
Peak: 14

Weeks On: 20

Points: 306

2012-2013/All Time Rank: 142

Certification: Silver
Last Year (2012): 129 (+37)

Another split year song, "Spectrum" got me interested in Florence Welch and specific remixes. Though it failed to spend a single week in the top 10, it became a modest hit. Florence has one more song in the top 100 of the year.

91. "Future Dreams" by TooSmooth
Peak: 20

Weeks On: 20

Points: 312

2012-2013/All Time Rank: 169

Certification: Silver

This was TooSmooth's big break. Diving into his 3rd album, "Future Dreams" became his first charting single that proved to be a moderate success. It was also chosen as the lead single from the album. Not bad for his first hit. It spent 20 weeks within the list and peaked at #20 for a single week. TooSmooth will likely land yet another hit in 2014 ("9 to 5" is a contender).

Come back for the 2nd installment later tonight!
