Chart Highlights: Lady Gaga's "Applause" Breaks 2013 #1 Record

Lady Gaga's "Applause" holds steady at #1 for a fifth consecutive frame with 92 plays, its lowest ranking airplay week.  This week's total is off 3 plays from the early 5th week estimate and down about 4% from last week's spin total (-4.16%). Still this week's airplay total is a spectacular feat for a song to accomplish, and "Applause" becomes the only song in history to spend 5 straight weeks in the 90+ spin range. The song should be able to stick around for a 6th straight week at #1 based on this week's performance and data from previous weeks. Additionally, ranks 2, 3, 4 and 5 are very tight in overall airplay figures, but the margin between #'s 1 and 2 is upwards of 15 spins. Even if the song descends by 10 spins, a chance at #1 is still very likely.

Zedd's smash single "Clarity (feat. Foxes)" zooms 4-2 with 74 spins. This is the song's highest weekly total so far, and overall airplay has surged from the 59 spins it received last week (+25.42%). Although 18 plays off from "Applause", the song could possibly reach #1 if the current number 1 song descends and "Clarity (feat. Foxes)" moves at faster pace than originally anticipated.

Vita Chambers moves 5-3 with promotional single "Masquerade". In 4 weeks, the song has bested "Fix You", which took 7 weeks to climb to #3. Despite this, a chance at #1 is a much lower possibility with Zedd riding into 2nd place and "Applause" still standing strong.

Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll" slides 2-4 after peaking in the runner up slot for two straight weeks. The slip can be attributed to the hype from the music video's launch dying down and the surge of "Clarity (feat. Foxes)" by Zedd and "Masquerade" by Vita Chambers this week. It tallies 66 spins, which is off just 4 from last week's total (-5.71%). This is off a mere 4 spins from "Masquerade" and only 8 off from "Clarity (feat. Foxes)". Additionally, the dropping of Zedd's re-release album and the announcement of Vita Chambers releasing an official second single could have artificially inflated the performance of the above mentioned songs. With this new data, Avril could easily return to her #2 peak and the possibility of #1 is about still small but even with last week's analysis.
Summer Songs Video Rank: #20

Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" dips 3-5 after spending a third non-consecutive week at #3 last week. Although rising in airplay and overall performance for the 5th straight week, strong competition from many new songs should prevent the song from rising any higher on the tally. To date the song has spent five weeks in the top 5.

Ayah Marar and Calvin Harris hold strong at #6 with former #1 runner "Thinking About You". The song had jumped 12-1 to earn the "Biggest Jump to #1" title, before being replaced by the debut of Lady Gaga's "Applause". Since then, the song has struggled to remain in the upper tier but manages to spend a 6th week in the top 10.

Katy Perry charges 9-7 with "Roar", lead cut from her 4th studio album, PRISM, which is set for release on October 22nd, 2013 in the United States. With 50 spins this week, "Roar" takes its best week since the extremely competitive week of August 20th, 2013 when 4 songs passed 100 plays. During that week, "Roar" rose 24-15 with an grand play total of 86 (its second week).

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis move 10-8 with 4th single "Wing$". The song follows the previous smash hits "Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)", "Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz)" and "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)" which all peaked within the top 2.
Summer Songs Video Rank: #30

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis descend 7-9 with "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)". It is the duo's only top 5 hit to not reach #1. It is succeeded by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 4th consecutive top 10 single "Wing$" which reaches the upper tier this week. Also, "White Walls (feat. ScHoolboy Q & Hollis)" enters the top 40 this week.
Summer Songs Video Rank: #4

To round out the upper tier this week, Zedd moves 11-10 with "Stay the Night (feat. Haley Williams)", lead single from his new re-release album. A competitive battle for the final top 10 slot occurred this week which left Lady Gaga's "Sex Dreams" falling 8-11 in week two.
