Lady Gaga's "Applause" spends a fourth consecutive week atop the list with 96 plays. Last week the song racked up 94 plays, meaning this week's total is up by an estimated 2% (+2.13%). The song sports its first weekly airplay rise, after descending for the past two week. The new 5th week forecast is 95 plays, up from estimated 85. That should still be enough to rank #1, as strong competition from Avril Lavigne's "Rock n Roll" (occupies #2) has died down after two weeks. "Swine", which was initially thought to be its biggest threat, opens below the top 20 this week. After the hype from the 9/1/13 show, predictions showed "Swine" entering the top 10 along with "Sex Dreams". The latter was able to pull of a top 10 entrance, but also opens lower than expected.
As previously mentioned, Avril Lavigne's "Rock n Roll" holds at #2 on the tally. The song's airplay has come to a slow, as hype from the music video's launch is starting to wear off. With 70 spins tallied this week (-11.39%) the chances of it crowning the list have gone down a lot. This new information mixed with the increase of "Applause" will likely result in Avril Lavigne not earning two consecutive #1 singles. Ironically, "Applause" is the first #1 opener since Avril's "Here's to Never Growing Up" blasted in atop the 1st anniversary list.
Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" spends a third non-consecutive week at #3. Although rising in airplay and overall performance for the 4th straight week, strong competition from many new songs should prevent the song from rising any higher on the tally. To date the song has spent four weeks in the top 10.
Zedd zooms 7-4 with "Clarity (feat. Foxes)". Aided by a large airplay presence and continuous gains, it claims the "Airplay Gainer" award for a second straight week. It is Foxes only top 10 single, and Zedd's first. Zedd's new single, "Stay the Night (feat. Haley Williams)" opens at #11 as the second biggest debut of the week.
Vita Chambers nudges 6-5 with her new promotional track "Masquerade. Her previous hit, "Fix You", opened during the last week of December 2012 at No. 10 with 56 plays. It later went on to peak at #1 for 4 consecutive weeks and become one of the biggest songs to ever hit the chart. The song is a precursor to the promised second single, set to drop near the end of September.
Ayah Marar and Calvin Harris slide 4-6 with former #1 runner "Thinking About You". The song had jumped 12-1 to earn the "Biggest Jump to #1" title, before being replaced by the debut of Lady Gaga's "Applause".
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis descend 5-7 with "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)". It is the duo's only top 5 hit to not reach #1. It is succeeded by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 4th consecutive top 10 single "Wing$" which reaches the upper tier this week. Also, "White Walls (feat. ScHoolboy Q & Hollis)" enters the top 50 this week.
Lady Gaga's "Sex Dreams" storms the top 10, entering at #8 with a solid 55 play start. It is the chart's "Hot Shot Debut", although about 100 plays off from the start of "Applause". This start is down from the expected 65 play open, but still good for a live version recording.
Katy Perry reaches the top 10 with "Roar" for the first time. It bounces 11-9 and is aided by the release of the music video on 9/5/13.
To round out the top 10 this week, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis move 12-10 with 4th single "Wing$". The song follows the previous smash hits "Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)", "Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz)" and "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)".
