Earlier this week newcomer Becky G dropped the
music video for her Jennifer Lopez inspired first single called "Becky
From the Block". Title sound familiar? It samples the chorus of Jennifer
Lopez's "Jenny From the Block". The carefully crafted single has a
latin vibe with several rap verses depicting Becky G's life before and after
her rise to fame. The single hits a high point when she raps the lines "If
you wanna date me, you gotta ask my Daddy/And my 30 uncles, you can meet them
in an alley". Toward the end she even starts to sing. The song offers
almost everything you could want: Latin vibes, Pop, Rap, and a true story.
Rating: 7.5
Bottom-Line: A great debut, but could have
used a more original chorus. Worth the listen.
