Lady Gaga's "Applause" spends a record breaking ninth straight frame atop the list with an outstanding 94 spins (+8.05%). This week, the songs spends a seventh frame above 90 spins and scores its highest ranking frame since week 4. It also defeats "Don't You Worry Child (feat. John Martin)" by Swedish House Mafia as the chart's longest consecutive reigning #1 single, and both "Don't You Worry Child (feat. John Martin)" by Swedish House Mafia and "We Run the Night (feat. Pitbull)" by Havana Brown for the longest #1 reign overall (8 each). Its track record is the following:
Week 1: 159 spins (NEW; -13% from prediction of 183)
Week 2: 109 spins (-31.44%)
Week 3: 94 spins (-13.76%)
Week 4: 96 spins (+2.16%)
Week 5: 92 spins (-4.16%)
Week 6: 92 spins (=)
Week 7: 89 spins (-3.26%)
Week 8: 87 spins (-2.24%)
Week 9: 94 spins (+8.05%)
Total Spins (Across 61 Days) = 912
Spins Per Week (Average) = 101
Spins Per Day (Average) = 15
This track record is incredible, and "Applause" will likely remain at #1 for a few more weeks. The ballpark is about 10-13 weeks at #1. With that being said, many competitors are scheduled to open within the next few weeks. You can read more about our forecast when it is linked here.
Vita Chambers bounds 4-2 with promotional single "Masquerade". Although its chances of becoming #1 have deflated, Vita will likely find more success in "What If?" when it hits the chart next week. Still, "Masquerade" tallies 79 spins (+9 from last week).
Last week, Katy Perry opened in the runner up position (#2) with her newest promotional/buzz effort "Walking On Air". This week the song slips 2-3. The song opened with a strong and very promising 82 spins (just off 5 from Lady Gaga's spin count). As it debuted, the song helps Katy net her biggest opening week of all time. It easily batts the weak 26 spin opening of "Roar" (only had 1 day of spins though), and the extremely poor opening of "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" which launched with an abysmal 36 spins across 4 days (averaging 9 spins each day). Although "Roar" opened low, it only had 1 day of spins. If you compare its first 4 days of its second week, "Roar" tops the "Walking On Air" by 1 spin. If you count the first 4 days overall for each song, "Roar" is behind by 8 spins. To compare the first 4 days of the train wreck that is "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)", "Walking On Air" is up 46 spins through the same period. Back to this week, "Walking On Air" slides to 77 spins (-5). After a promising start and a quick fall, a good prediction of its longtime performance wont be available until a few for frames of data come in.
Avril Lavigne slides one rung to #4 (3-4) with four time runner up song "Rock N Roll". It manages to score 72 spins (down 6) which is even with its performance 2 weeks ago. It's #2 streak has been briefly interrupted by Zedd's "Clarity (feat. Foxes)", Vita Chambers' "Masquerade" and Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" for 1 week each (so far). Despite not ranking at #3, a fifth week at #2 is possible to the constant fluctuation of this song. Our estimate for next week is 78 spins. Two weeks ago, the song defeated "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (which spent three non-consecutive weeks at #2) for the "Most Weeks at #2 (Without Reaching #1)" title.
Karmin remains at #5 for a second week with first ever top 5 single "Acapella". "Brokenhearted" and "Hello", the singles that preceded "Acapella", peaked at #s 12 and 21 respectively. The song has been consistently gaining in points and positions for the entire time the song has charted on the list.
Drake moves 7-6 with his fourth top 10 single "Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)". He previously hit the upper tier with the #1 single "Take Care (feat. Rihanna)", "The Motto (feat. Lil Wayne)" and "Make Me Proud (feat. Nicki Minaj)" (5th if you include "What's My Name (feat. Drake) by Rihanna which hit #1 in late 2010). He has yet to score a solo top 10, as "Started From the Bottom" failed to reach the top 50, peaking at #52 (on the Bubbling Under Chart) for a single week.
"Work B**ch" by Britney spears surges 10-7 with this week's streaming honors. Two weeks ago, the song jumped 42-12 to claim the title of "Biggest Position Jump (From One Week to the Next)". Moving up 30 slots, "Work B**ch" narrowly took the crown from Nicole Scherzinger's "Boomerang" which catapulted 48-19 (up 29 slots) in the first half of 2013. Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" catapulted 31-3 just a few weeks ago (up 28 slots) and Ellie Goulding travelled up 28 slots as well to #4 with "I Need Your Love (feat. Calvin Harris)" last year. Most other jumps on the chart haven't come close to these four jumps mentioned above.
Katy Perry slides 6-8 with "Roar", lead cut from her 4th studio album, PRISM, which is set for release on October 22nd, 2013 in the United States. The song which peaked at #3 has now left the gap between it and "Applause" even bigger (as an additional 7 points separate "Applause and "Roar"). "Applause" which has shifted 450 + points already, will likely be certified gold next week, while "Roar" has yet to surpass 400 points (despite the fact that "Roar" opened a week before "Applause") and will take at least 3 more weeks to go gold.
Zedd's smash single "Clarity (feat. Foxes)" dips 8-9 with 54 spins (down 8). It appears that the song's airplay total four weeks ago was slightly inflated due to the buzz surrounding the release of Zedd's new re-release album. This is what likely caused it to peak at #2 for 1 week with a solid airplay figure. The song has began its downhill slide after the small plunge that it received just a few weeks ago.
Lorde's "Royals" rounds out the upper tier as it rockets to #10 this week. Up over 25% in spins this week, "Royals" is a promising candidate for #1. Lorde also makes serious strides lower on the list with "Tennis Court" and "Team".
Come back for the charts dated September 26th, 2013, October 3rd, 2013, October 10th, 2013 and October 17th, 2013 this weekend!
