The week of August 23rd, 2013 has become a record setting week in multiple categories. It sets the following records:
- "Biggest Airplay Spin Total (Song)"
- "Most Songs To Pass 100 Spins In A Single Week"
- "Biggest #1 Debut"
As previously speculated, "Applause", Lady Gaga's first single from forthcoming album ARTPOP debuts atop the tally with a hefty airplay total. In just 5 days of the week (the song opened Monday), the song was able to rack up a hefty 159 spins. Although off by a rough 13% from the 183 spin prediction, the song still has the widest audience ever. The previous record holder, "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)" by Maroon 5, had a total of 116 spins in its best week which is off 37% from the new record.
Despite the amazing debut from "Applause", many other songs had sky high performances which in turn shook up most of the top 20 and brought a total of 4 songs to a weekly spin count of over 100. This breaks the record previously set by the June 21st, 2012 chart (3 songs over 100 plays).
Ayah Marar and Calvin Harris' "Thinking About You" is the second song to pass 100 plays this week, despite a dip (1-2). It has a final total of 109 plays, off 50 from "Applause" but up from its last week's total of 72 (+51.38%).
In the biggest surprise of the week, Lana Del Rey rockets 31-3 (up 28 positions) with "Summertime Sadness". The big rise is the second largest ever, after Nicole Scherzinger's "Boomerang" rose 48-17 earlier this year. It is the 3rd title this week to pass 100 spins (104), barely edging out the song mentioned below.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis slides 2-4 "Same Love (feat. Mary Lambert)"after holding at #2 for a third consecutive week. It becomes the 4th song this week to pass 100 plays (102 spins), and bests the group's record set by "Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)" (82 plays). If the song is able to reach the #1 position then Macklemore & Ryan Lewis would become the first duo, group or artist to place their first 3 charting songs in the top position and would become the first act of 2013 to claim 3 leaders.
Avril Lavigne's "Rock n Roll" holds at its #5 peak position for a second consecutive week.
"Radioactive" by the Imagine Dragons jumps 7-6. Up over 10% in airplay, the song yet again helps the Imagine Dragons earn their best airplay week ever (5th week in a row).
Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines (feat. Pharrell & T.I.) crumbles 3-7 after two straight weeks at the penthouse.
Mia Martina crashes 4-8 after coming to a brand new peak with hit debut single "La La".
Katy Tiz dives 6-9 after four consecutive weeks at #1 with newest single "Red Cup". Before ending its run, Katy Tiz joined Vita Chambers, Macklemore/Ryan Lewis and Swedish House Mafia in a four-way tie for the longest #1 reign of 2013. Swedish House Mafia actually landed 8 weeks at #1 but wrapped its run with only four weeks in 2013.
Ellie Goulding moves 11-10 with "Burn". This new song is one of the 10 new tracks to be issued as part of the Halcyon re-release titled Halcyon Days. Additionally, Ellie nets the biggest opening of the week with another new song titled "Under Control".
Katy Perry's "Roar" climbs 24-15 in other news.
The chart will be published Wednesday, August 21st, 2013.

The LOOK Vol. 3
In this new weekly feature titled "The LOOK", I will feature data about the positioning of hot/upcoming songs reflecting the first 4 days of the weekly airplay tracker (Saturday - Wednesday). To keep things more interesting, I will not feature any information about songs that charted in the top 10 during the previous week. The only way that a song in the top 10 could be featured is if it jumps into the top 10 from a rank of at least 5 position lower during the previous week.
For example:
#15-#10 (Covered)
#14-10 (Not Covered)
#14-9 (Covered)
For example:

etc.
Anyway lets kick off the second edition of "The LOOK"!
As previously noted, Lady Gaga's "Applause" is heading for a large entry on the August 23rd, 2013 chart. Yesterday's prediction showed that the single could wrap a first week total north of 120 plays. Wednesday's overall plays shows that the prediction was off quite a bit. Through 3 days of airplay, "Applause" has racked a massive total of 110 spins (which is 3rd among all time records at the moment). A previous 2 day forecast showed a total of 70+ after the song took in 43 spins in day 1 (Monday). In reality the song brought in 45 plays in day 2 (Tuesday), up about 4% from day 1 and coming in with a 2 day total of 88 spins. Despite this uptick on day 2, the song fell a rough 51% in day 3. Here is a breaking down of the spin percentages per day:
Based on the above data, here is a chart with more predictions for the week. The 5 day total should reach about 180 plays.
Katy Perry's "Roar" which claimed enough airplay in 1 day to rank #24 on the August 15th, 2013 chart has started to slip, but still manages to bring in an estimated 95 plays from Saturday to Wednesday. Here is a chart showing overall plays between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry this week and how their first 5 days turned out. As you can see, Katy was down about 80 spins in a five week period v.s. Gaga and was down about 100 this week. In terms of the two days that the songs Lady Gaga easily wins the battle (88 v.s. 26). Still Katy Perry is set to have an amazing week, that could catapult her into the top 10. Additionally, on 8/14/13 she scored 12 plays (+33.33%).
