Song Review: "Venus" by Lady Gaga

"Venus" which was released this weekend as the 1st promotional single from ARTPOP, initially came off as scaring and weird but its chorus is cleverly crafted and brings an additional layer of sweetness to this otherwise dark song. The song is very strong for a producer's debut (Lady Gaga) and that makes the song even more special. While bearing striking similarities to several The Fame songs, "Venus" certainly "blasts off to another dimension". With sick and uptempo beats mixed with more mellow sounds, the song is a blend of singing styles that work surprisingly well. The bridge is the most unique part of the song by far. It mentions all of the planets and is pretty funny. The best lines are "Uranus/ Don't you know my ass is famous?" where Mother Monster screeches and sings at almost the same time.

Expect this hit-to-be to skyrocket during its first full week of spins on CDS Music Chart. It opened at No. 42 this week after the snippet was released online late on Friday night. Although this is fairly low, this is very strong for a 40 second snippet.

Rating: 8.5/10
Bottom Line: Infectious and cleverly crafted chorus, strong debut as a producer and better than most promotional singles.
