Chart Highlights: Mariah Carey Blasts Onto Top 50

After just 3 days of tracking, Mariah Carey's "You're Mine (Eternal)" blasts onto the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 at #13, becoming her highest charting single in history (since my chart's inception in early 2012). More on this will be presented at the end of this post.

Ayah Marar holds at #1 with her 1st solo charting single (and 2nd charting song overall), "Mind Controller". The song is Ayah's 2nd overall #1 single as her guest spot on Calvin Harris' "Thinking About You" propelled her to #1 back in August 2013. This lift comes just weeks after Ayah scored the largest chart re-entry in history when "Mind Controller" rebooted within the top 10 (#6). The only other song to re-enter the chart within the top 10 is "Young" by Tulisa which blasted to #8 back in 2012. This week, overall points for "Controller" were up a mere 1% which isn't a particularly strong hold for a #1 song.

Holding at #2 for a 7th straight week, OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" continues its streak for "Most Weeks At #2 (Without Reaching #1)". The record was previously held by Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll" (5 weeks in 2013). Additionally, last week, the song became the only #2 peaking song to spend time behind 3 or more different #1's. Previously, Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us" spent 9 overall weeks at #2 behind 4 different #1's. While Macklemore's song would be the holder of the two previously mentioned records, it ended its 9 week #2 stay by vaulting to the #1 position the following week and staying for an additional 2 weeks. This week, "Counting Stars" was up by 4%, giving Ayah a 2.5% overall point lead.

Shakira's "Can't Remember To Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" inches 4-3 on the tally with a 2.5% increase in points. Two weeks ago, the single became Rihanna's 12th non-consecutive top 5 hit (the most for any artist on this chart so far), and at this point has a chance at becoming the artist's 6th #1 single. As previously mentioned, it is Shakira's only top 10 hit. To date the song has racked up 178 overall points through its first 4 frames.

"Unconditionally" slides 3-4 after a 3 week command in the #1 position. Although sliding by a mere 1%, the song was beat by OneRepublic's Shakira's "Can't Remember To Forget You (feat. Rihanna)" for the #3 position on this week's chart. In fact the margin was so thin that I had to recount the spins multiple times to see which song was actually #3 and which one was #4 for the week.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z' latest collaboration, "Drunk In Love", charges 7-5 on the tally this week. Surprisingly enough, the song is Beyoncé's first ever top 5 hit. This is because Beyoncé was on a hiatus (she gave birth) around the time that my chart first started. Her 5th studio album titled Beyoncé was just released 2 and a 1/2 months ago. The single is also Jay-Z's first top 10 entry on the chart.

Eminem's previous #1 single, "The Monster (feat. Rihanna)", holds at #6 for a third straight week. This week, the song remains even with the amount of plays it received last week. The song spends a 16th week in the top 10 (its entire run thus far).

Mia Martina slides 5-7 with her 2nd top 5 single "Danse (feat. Dev)". Down by a noticeable amount, the song still held considerably well this week. So far the single has peaked at #4, which is exactly even with Mia Martina's own "La La...", which also peaked at #4 back in mid 2013.

Jason Derülo's "Talk Dirty (feat. 2 Chainz)" bounds 13-8 with a 8 point increase to 72 points (up 13%). This week the single becomes Jason's first ever top 10 single (and the 1st for 2 Chainz). The song has continued to pick up considerably, which could be due to the fact that it has heated up very quickly in the United States.

Lady Gaga dips 8-9 with "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)". The song (which hit #1 for 6 weeks), is starting to suffer from not having an official video and is dropping faster than "Applause". To date it has spent 14 weeks in the top 5 and and records its lowest point scoring week in history (it started with over 200 points in October; a record). The official remix with Christina Aguilera could end up helping the song parallel the success of its predecessor.

To round out the chart's top 10, "Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)" remains stationary at #10. The single follows "The One That Got Away" and "Walking On Air" which peaked at #2, "Roar" which peaked at #3, "Wide Awake" which peaked at #5, "Part of Me" which peaked at #8 and most recently "Unconditionally" which has peaked at #1 for 3 weeks thus far.

Right outside the top 10, Mariah Carey's most recent single "You're Mine (Eternal)" blasts onto the chart at #13. The song becomes her highest charting single in history (beating "#Beautiful (feat. Miguel)" which peaked at #14 back in early 2013). Although the song only had 3 days of plays in the past week it blasts fairly high on the chart due to the release of an Urban remix featuring Trey Songz and the Jump Smokers dance remix (which accounted for 2/3 of the song's points this week).

Come back for the chart!
