Exclusive: Interview with Katy Tiz

Katy Tiz Sits Down To Participate in CDS Music's 2nd Ever Interview!
Katy Tiz. From London to Los Angeles. From "Famous" to "Red Cup". Katy is fairly new to the recording industry but she has already left a big mark on it. On May 10th, 2013 I was looking through some radio stations and stopped when I heard something I thought was interesting. I Shazam'd it quickly and read the name aloud. "Red Cup". I continued to listen and the chorus just blew me away. I immediately jumped to my computer and downloaded the track from iTunes. Following this, the song debuted within the top 10 on CDS Music's Top 50 the next week. It later went on to reach #1 for a full month, went platinum (over 1000 points) and became my favorite song of "Summer 2013".

Q: Can you reveal anything about upcoming singles or collaborations?
A: I have 120 songs from the last 18 months so I'm going to take my time over the holidays and decide/with team which baby to show u in 2014

Q: At what point did you get the idea for "Red Cup" or begin work on it?
A: I was with RedOne in the studio and we were all jamming, that song came together in about 30 minutes!

Q: If you were given the opportunity to work with a single artist who would it be and why?
A: Eminem. He is a genius!

Q: In the past year or so, which moment was hardest for you?
A: Being away from home, friends, family and my crazy dog!

Q: In the past year or so, which moment was the most memorable?
A: The two weeks I spent with RedOne and his team.

Q: Will there be a "Red Cup" music video?
A: There is no plan right now to shoot the video but you never know!

Q: When did you decide that you wanted to become an artist?
A: I never really did! I just know that I love it (being an artist) and I will chase my dream until I don’t love it anymore.

Q: Who or what inspires you?
A: PEOPLE! If I feel like I’ve made even the smallest impact on someone it really spur's me on! I get all excited and go to the studio at 2 A.M.

Q: Where do you hope to be in a year?
A: At home, with my crazy family, having had a really successful year! Because ITS CHRRRIIIIIIIISTMAS!!!! *Christmas Robot dance*

So there you have it! This is my last interview of the year! You can see all the others on this website and check out the YEAR END 2013 Top 100!

CDS Music Top 100 of 2013: #50-#41

Welcome back to the CDS Music Top 100 of 2013 rundown! This is part 6 and covers #50 to #41. Six back, relax and enjoy!

50. "C'mon" by Ke$ha
Peak: 7
Weeks On: 24
Points: 524
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 50
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 85 (+35)

After "Die Young", Ke$ha returned with "C'mon" which peaked at #7. It didn't preform well in the United States, which ultimately affected its ranking overall (though it did pass 750 points overall). To date it has become her best preforming song to date, surpassing "Die Young" by just over 20 points.

49. "Royals" by Lorde
Peak: 8
Weeks On: 20
Points: 531
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 99
Certification: Gold

Lorde was one of 2013's biggest newcomers. Her single "Royals" reached the lower part of the top 10 and has spent 20 weeks on the chart (so far). The only reason as to why it didn't go higher on the list is because US radio over promoted it in the later half of 2013.

48. "Sexxx Dreams" by Lady Gaga
Peak: 8
Weeks On: 16
Points: 541
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 97
Certification: Gold

Following SwineFest (the 2013 iTunes Festival), "Sexxx Dreams" opened at #8. While that was much lower than expected (a top 5 debut was pegged), the song ultimately passed 500 points and will likely end with a strong 800+ points.

47. "Glorious" by Cascada
Peak: 6
Weeks On: 16
Points: 543
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 96
Certification: Gold

As the 2013 Eurovision entry for Germany, "Glorious" had a lot riding on its shoulders. To be honest, it was one of this year's best Eurovision entries but vacated the list after a short 4 months. According to the standings, it ranked within the middle of the pack of the 32 entries in the yearly competition.

46. "Radioactive" by Rita Ora
Peak: 8
Weeks On: 24
Points: 569
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 58
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 100 (+54)

The first 'Radioactive' song on the list is by UK female artist Rita Ora. It became her highest charting single and biggest point collector in her short discography. After rounding out last year's top 100, the song bounded 54 positions for a year end ranking of #46.

45. "Acapella" by Karmin
Peak: 5
Weeks On: 19
Points: 570
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 93
Certification: Gold

Karmin's 3rd charting song became their biggest single to date. "Acapella" (though spelled wrong) is a pop masterpiece that is minimal but gets the job done. It is done with almost no instrumental and the production is very twisted and unique. I hope Karmin can whip out some more hits like so this on their new album on Pulses (due in Spring 2014).

44. "Wake Me Up (feat. Aloe Blacc)" by Avicii
Peak: 6
Weeks On: 19
Points: 571
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 91
Certification: Gold

Originally, I heavily disliked this song (therefore it didn't chart at first). It started to grow on me and well here it is on my year end list. The thumping harmonica and the vocals provided by newcomer Aloe Blacc are fresh and welcoming. Avicii will likely reach the top 50 again in 2014 with "You Make Me" and "Hey Brother".

43. "Live For the Night" by Krewella
Peak: 13
Weeks On: 26
Points: 597
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 85
Certification: Gold

In one of the strangest cases I have had on my chart, Krewella's "Live For the Night" has reached a #13 peak position and has been listed for 26 weeks. It is currently ranking at #13 (its peak) and if it ends up reaching the top 10, it will have completed the longest journey for a song into the top 10.

42. "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons
Peak: 6
Weeks On: 23
Points: 599
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 84
Certification: Gold

Imagine Dragons (a mix up of a TRUE name only known officially by the members) started off with "It's Time" in the lower region of the top 50 but quickly released "Radioactive" as the next single from their debut album. It preformed much better than the previous single and eventually reached a peak position of #6.

41. "American Girl" by Bonnie McKee
 Peak: 11
Weeks On: 25
Points: 600
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 83
Certification: Gold

It's a bittersweet position for Bonnie McKee. With her first single, she manages to rank #41 for the year (just right outside the prestigious top 40) and was one of over a dozen singles to barely miss the top 10. Her second single didn't reach the top 50.

Come back for part 7!

CDS Music Top 100 of 2013: #60-#51

Welcome to part 5 in the CDS Music Chart Year End 2013 Top 100!

Today I will be running through positions #60 through #51! Sit back, relax and enjoy!

60. "Glowing" by Nikki Williams
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 25
Points: 465
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 88
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012):115 (+55)

Debuting just 3 weeks from the end of 2012, "Glowing" was pegged to have a great run on CDS Music. Unfortunately, all it did was descend from its opening position (#11). It was also compared to "Fix You" by Vita Chambers and was initially thought to have a similar run (though this was not the case).

59. "Ciao (Reload)" by Lollipop
Peak: 12
Weeks On: 20
Points: 472
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 113
Certification: Silver

Lollipop's return single became their first charting single (and only one released in the 2010s). They became the first Italian group to chart on the list and spawned this moderate success that really gave them my attention.

58. "The Way (feat. Mac Miller)" by Ariana Grande
Peak: 9
Weeks On: 20
Points: 479
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 112
Certification: Silver

Ariana's debut single was a major success in most countries and did really well on my chart as well. It was both Ariana's and Mac Miller's only single to reach the list. Grande's follow up, "Baby I", reached the Bubbling Under Chart but failed to reach the top 50.

57. "Wild (feat. Big Sean)" by Jessie J
Peak: 12
Weeks On: 20
Points: 486
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 110
Certification: Silver

After her top 10 hits "Silver Linings", "Domino" and "LaserLight", Jessie J returned to the top 50 with the lead single from her second studio album. It opened in the higher part of the top 20 but peaked on arrival. It lasted 20 weeks on the chart but failed to replicate the success of her previous entries (they all reached the top 10).

56. "Boomerang" by Nicole Scherzinger
Peak: 10
Weeks On: 20
Points: 489
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 109
Certification: Silver

As all comeback singles go, this one received lots of promotion. The music video was very visual and interesting and the song was pushed in the major UK market (Nicole was a judge on The X Factor UK). It set a record for the largest position change when it jumped 49-18. The record was later diminished when "Work B**ch" by Britney Spears leaped 42-12.

55. "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 21
Points: 492
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 107
Certification: Silver

After releasing the terrible "Suit & Tie" in January, Justin Timberlake returned with "Mirrors". I considered it a major step up from his previous effort. It later became his 1st charting single and ultimately peaked at #11 for a single week (many songs got stuck at #11 and #12 this year; a dozen).

54. "Walking On Air" by Katy Perry
Peak: 2
Weeks On: 12
Points: 503
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 106
Certification: Gold

After the good success of "Roar", and the moderate success of "Dark Horse" (#106 this year), Katy Perry returned with her highest peaking single to date. After just 3 months, it was able to rack up over 500 points and will ultimately wind up over 800 points by the end of its run.

53. "Live It Up (feat. Pitbull)" by Jennifer Lopez
Peak: 12
Weeks On: 19
Points: 519
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 103
Certification: Gold

After the #3 peaking "Dance Again" in 2012 (also with Pitbull), Ms. Lopez returned to the music scene with another Caribbean inspired thumper. Although failing to replicate the success of her previous charting song, "Live It Up" became a decent summer hit and became one of over a dozen songs to stall in the #11-#13 section of the chart.

52. "Right Now (feat. David Guetta)" by Rihanna
Peak: 3
Weeks On: 33
Points: 520
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 36
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 68 (+16)

Though it only reached #52 on this year's "Hot 100 Year End", this song surpassed all other Unapologetic singles (other than "Diamonds") in terms of overall points. It ranks much lower on this year's list because it had a split year (unlike "Pour It Up" and "Stay").

51. "Just Give Me A Reason (feat. Nate Ruess)" by P!nk
Peak: 9
Weeks On: 20
Points: 520
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 36
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 68 (+16)

P!nk makes her second and final appearance on this year's "Hot 100" list. The single peaked at #9 (the second lowest peaking song from P!nk) but quickly vanished from the list (when it began getting lots of promotion on United States radio).

Come back for part 6!

CDS Music Chart Top 100 of 2013: #70-#61

Welcome to the 4th installment of CDS Music Chart's Top 100 rundown!

Today I will be reviewing the positions #70-#61. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

70. "Aura" by Lady Gaga
Peak: 10
Weeks On: 14
Points: 414
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 134
Certification: Silver

When the demo for the song leaked in early August, it became pretty clear that "Aura" was going to chart on my top 50. It wasn't confirmed (just speculated) that it would appear on the album at the time, therefore it didn't initially chart. When the song was preformed at the iTunes Festival in September, it began charting and eventually peaked at #10.

69. "#Beautiful (feat. Miguel)" by Mariah Carey
Peak: 14
Weeks On: 16
Points: 424
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 130
Certification: Silver

Marking a major improvement from her previously released singles, "#Beautiful" became her first charting single as well as Miguel's 1st. Her previous single "Triumphant" failed to reach even the bubbling under list. Her latest single "The Art of Letting Go" was released in November and has recently charted within the lower region of the bubbling chart (it could make the top 50 in early 2013). Another untitled single will likely be released in February 2014.

68. "Timber (feat. Ke$ha)" by Pitbull
Peak: 2
Weeks On: 11
Points: 428
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 128
Certification: Silver

Currently ranking within the top 5, "Timber" posted a major comeback for both Pitbull and Ke$ha. Ke$ha's previous entry, "Crazy Kids", peaked at #28 and ranked #125 for the year. Pitbull's latest single to chart was "Live It Up" with Jennifer Lopez. That song failed to reach the top 10, but ranks higher on this year end list ("Timber" had a 2013 run that was cut short and will likely rank higher next year).

67. "Got Me Good" by Ciara
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 20
Points: 438
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 111
Certification: Silver
Last Year (2012): 136 (+69)

Though it failed to be included on Ciara's self titled 4th album, it did become a noteworthy top 20 hit. "Got Me Good" easily became Ciara's successful single, as "I'm Out" peaked at #1 on the Bubbling Under Chart for 6 weeks (equivalent to #51). It is also Ciara's only entry to date.

66. "Stay the Night (feat. Haley Williams of Paramore)" by Zedd
Peak: 8
Weeks On: 16
Points: 441
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 124
Certification: Silver

Following the success of "Clarity (feat. Foxes)" worldwide, Zedd announced an expanded edition of his debut album. "Stay the Night" was announced as the expanded album's official first single and almost immediately charted (a strong #11 opening). It started falling quickly (as it didn't receive US radio promo). It is just now starting to receive promo in the US, causing it to head back up on my chart.

65. "Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)" by Lady Gaga
Peak: 1 (x6)
Weeks On: 9
Points: 446
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 123
Certification: Silver

Following the major success of "Applause", "Do What U Want" was confirmed as the album's second single and became the album's second straight #1 single. Although it reached  #1, it spent only 6 weeks at #1, off 5 from the amount of weeks that "Applause" was #1. It currently ranks #3 on the Christmas chart.

64. "What If?" by Vita Chambers
Peak: 3
Weeks On: 10
Points: 447
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 122
Certification: Silver

"What If?" became the artist's 3rd straight top 5 single (after a top 10 debut). "Masquerade" and "Fix You" hit #'s 2 and 1 respectively. Vita Chambers has two other songs within the top 50 of my year end list.

63. "My Heart Is Refusing Me" by Loreen
Peak: 1 (x1)
Weeks On: 34
Points: 448
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 17
Certification: Silver
Last Year (2012): 30 (-33)

As the follow up to "Euphoria", this song had lots of pressure to reach the same level of success. It turned out great and ranks as the #17 best preforming song in history (while "Euphoria" ranks #10). Ultimately, it peaked at #1 for a single week, being succeeded by Swedish House Mafia's 8 week runner.

62. "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" by Carly Rae Jepsen
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 14
Points: 447
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 117
Certification: Silver

After the success of "Call Me Maybe" and "Good Time", this song became Carly Rae Jepsen's only other charting song. It failed to reach the top 10 (her other singles reached the top 5) but managed to peak right outside of it at #11. It is her only charting Year End entry this year.

61. "Give It 2 U (feat. Kenrick Lamar)" by Robin Thicke
Peak: 11
Weeks On: 19
Points: 462
2012-2013/All Time Rank: 114
Certification: Silver

Following "Blurred Lines", this song followed right on its heels. It was released as a promo single for Robin Thicke's latest album before being promoted to Top 40 radio. It was a moderate success and peaked at #11 around the time when there were lots of new top 10 entries (in late summer).

Come back for part 5!

CDS Music Top 100 of 2013: #80-71

Welcome back to my Year End Top 100 rundown!

In this post I will be covering year end ranks #80 through #71. Sit back, relax and enjoy the next songs on the list.

80. "Venus" by Lady Gaga
Peak: 1 (x1)
Weeks: 9
Points: 377
2012-2013/All Time Rank:146
Certification: Silver

After debuting at #42 based on plays from 1 day of tracking, "Venus" shot to #1 the following week. This helped it take many chart achievements including "Biggest Jump to #1" and "Largest Airplay Total (Not in a debut week)". It ranks as the #9 song of the final week of 2013, a fairly hefty drop from the lead it had before.

79. "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic
Peak: 5 (x3)
Weeks:12
Points: 378
2012-2013/All Time Rank:145
Certification: Silver

It became OneRepublic's first ever top 5 hit (peaking at #5 for 3 straight weeks) and most successful song to date. It follows OneRepublic's "If I Lose Myself" as their second straight top 40 hit (the mentioned one peaked at #40). "Counting Stars" is continuing to remain high on the list, spending a 3rd week at #5 in the final week of 2013.

78. "Two Black Cadillacs" by Carrie Underwood
Peak: 19
Weeks:16
Points: 379
2012-2013/All Time Rank:144
Certification: Silver

Following the limited success of "Blown Away" in 2012 and the big success of  "Good Girl" (also in 2012), "Two Black Cadillacs" followed as Carrie's 3rd single from her new album. It was a moderate top 20 hit and was able to bank about 380 points (her lowest for a song to date). It received a major push from Country radio and multiple performances helped push this song up the list.

77. "Love Me Back To Life" by Celine Dion
Peak: 13
Weeks:15
Points: 388
2012-2013/All Time Rank:142
Certification: Silver

Celine's comeback single was received positively by most critics (including me) and quickly landed in the top 20 of my chart. It received minimal promotion on Top 40 radio but still managed a #13 peak on my list, a high for Celine. The album's second single, "Incredible (feat. Ne-Yo)", has yet to crack the list's top 50.

76. "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus
Peak: 14
Weeks:16
Points: 390
2012-2013/All Time Rank:140
Certification: Silver

Though Miley was defiantly appreciated worldwide this year, she struggled on my list. "We Can't Stop" didn't catch on for me (didn't chart) though I might classify it as the "Best Non-Charter of the Year" as I do like it more now. "Wrecking Ball" also initially struggled on my list and started to tumble after obtaining a #21 peak. Toward the final weeks of 2013, it bounced back and obtained a new high of #14 and could eventually reach the top 10. "We Can't Stop" also has a big chance of reaching the list in 2014.

75. "Waiting For the Night" by Nelly Furtado
Peak: 14
Weeks:17
Points: 392
2012-2013/All Time Rank:139
Certification: Silver

Becoming Nelly Furtado's 1st single to reach the top 40, "Waiting For the Night" peaked at #14 on my chart. It lasted 17 weeks on the chart and is the only Nelly Furtado single to reach the chart so far. All other songs from her recently released album failed to reach the weekly top 50.

74. "E.V.O.L." by Marina & the Diamonds
Peak: 13
Weeks:14
Points: 405
2012-2013/All Time Rank:136
Certification: Silver

It became Marina & the Diamonds' 3rd charting single (after 2 top 5's) but became her lowest charting single until her song "State of Dreaming" briefly charted later in 2013. It was released as a special song for Valentine's Day 2013 and wasn't released on any digital services (to purchase) but was limited to Soundcloud and YouTube.

73. "Wing$" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Peak: 8
Weeks:15
Points: 406
2012-2013/All Time Rank:135
Certification: Silver

Macklemore's 4th straight top 10 single charted for a short and sweet 15 weeks (half the run of his other charting singles). Peaking at #8, it was also his lowest ranking single besides "White Walls" (which peaked at #40). Macklemore has 3 other charting songs higher within the top 100.

72. "Silver Linings (Crazy About You)" by Jessie J
Peak: 9
Weeks:24
Points: 411
2012-2013/All Time Rank:56
Certification: Gold
Last Year (2012): 71 (-1)

Dropping just 1 position from last year's year end chart, "Silver Linings" easily became Jessie J's best performing single (ranking #56 all time) and earned the most points overall (740+). It also ranks as the biggest movie theme song in the history of my chart (beating all other entries by a LONG shot).

71. " Killer" by Sharon Doorson
Peak: 8
Weeks:12
Points: 412
2012-2013/All Time Rank:134
Certification: Silver

Sharon Doorson's highest debuting single in history failed to generate much more than its debuting week (peaked at #8 after a #9 debut). "Killer" lasted a mere 3 months on the chart and peaked on the lower end of the upper tier. It failed to replicate the success of her previous single "Fail In Love" which ranks within the top 50 songs of the year.

Come back for the 4th installment of the rundown!
